Mini Rooftop Edition Reimagines Classic Contrast Roof Design

The Mini Rooftop Edition introduces a striking aesthetic shift, inverting the brand's classic body and roof color separation. This special release, part of Mini's 2026 Icon Drops anniversary initiative in the United States, focuses on a refreshed visual identity for the Cooper S hatchback rather than mechanical enhancements. It offers a unique interpretation of Mini's signature two-tone design, aiming to captivate enthusiasts with its distinctive style.
This exclusive model is built upon the Cooper S 2-door and 4-door hatchbacks, retaining their turbocharged four-cylinder engine and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The core appeal of the Rooftop Edition lies in its innovative use of color. Mini has opted for a mirrored paint and trim treatment, where the traditional body and roof colors swap positions. This creative approach allows for a fresh and unconventional appearance, setting it apart from standard models.
Specifically, two metallic hues, Indigo Sunset Blue and Melting Silver III, are utilized. One configuration features an Indigo Sunset Blue body paired with a Melting Silver III roof and matching mirror caps, while the alternative reverses this scheme, placing the darker tone on the roof. Both iterations are further distinguished by Piano Black exterior accents and 17-inch U-Spoke Grey wheels, which serve to underscore the inverted contrast concept.
Inside the cabin, the Rooftop Edition maintains the modern, minimalist design of the latest Cooper S. However, it incorporates John Cooper Works sport seats, subtly branded with Mini logos on the backrests, along with black Vescin upholstery accented by contrasting stitching and blue trim elements. This combination of interior details ensures a cohesive and refined experience that complements the vehicle's unique exterior.
For customers in the US, the Cooper S 2-Door Rooftop Edition is priced at $39,995, while the 4-Door version is available for $40,995, excluding a $1,350 destination charge. This special edition is offered as a comprehensive package, adding approximately $1,595 to the vehicle's cost. This package bundles features such as the Iconic Trim, Comfort Package Plus, Favoured Style package, and other options, collectively valued at over $4,100. Notable equipment includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, augmented reality navigation, Parking Assist Plus, wireless smartphone charging, and a premium Harman Kardon audio system.
Production for the Mini Rooftop Edition is slated to commence in September 2026, with deliveries to US dealerships expected in October 2026. This release marks the fifth in a series of eight limited Icon Drops planned for the year, aligning with Mini's celebration of the modern Cooper's 25th anniversary in America. Through these short-run themed editions, Mini aims to enhance the collectible nature of its Cooper S hatchbacks, offering distinct stylistic variations without altering their fundamental mechanical design.
