Mini is charting an exciting course for its next-generation Cooper, blending nostalgic design elements with cutting-edge engineering. The brand's design chief confirms that initial sketches for the new Cooper draw heavily from the beloved 2001 R50 model, emphasizing its distinctive stance and proportions. Concurrently, BMW engineers are seriously considering adopting a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) Gen6 electric platform, a significant departure from Mini's current front-wheel-drive (FWD) setup. This strategic evolution could redefine the Cooper's performance characteristics. The current electric Cooper utilizes a FWD platform developed through a Chinese joint venture, while its gasoline counterpart retains an updated version of the previous FWD chassis.
