Ford Unveils 2027 Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible

Ford recently showcased the 2027 Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible, bringing back a high-performance open-top Mustang after an absence of over ten years. This new iteration, unveiled at the Woodward Dream Cruise, follows the Mustang Dark Horse SC coupe introduced earlier this year, and effectively serves as a successor to the esteemed Shelby GT500 series, which previously lacked a convertible option.
Sharing many characteristics with its coupe sibling, the convertible houses a formidable supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 engine that generates 795 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque. This immense power is channeled to the rear wheels through a sophisticated Tremec seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and a carbon-fiber driveshaft. The vehicle retains the aggressive aesthetic of the coupe, featuring numerous vents and intakes on its front, pronounced wheel arches, sharp side sills, distinctive rectangular exhaust outlets, and a substantial rear wing. Additionally, it incorporates a lightweight magnesium tower-to-tower brace in the engine bay for enhanced structural integrity.
However, the convertible distinguishes itself with a focus on street performance as a grand tourer, rather than the track-oriented design of the coupe. While it still features a MagneRide suspension system with adaptive magnetorheological dampers, Ford has tailored its tune to be less aggressive. Notably, the convertible will not offer the coupe's specialized Track package, which includes carbon-fiber wheels, high-performance tires, and carbon-ceramic brakes derived from the Mustang GTD. Furthermore, the exclusive Teal Accent package, with its unique teal-painted brake calipers, is also unavailable for the convertible. The new model introduces a striking 'Precision Purple' paint option, a color-shifting hue inspired by the 'Blue Ember Metallic' of the standard Dark Horse, reminiscent of the iconic Mystichrome Mustangs. Inside, buyers can choose between Black Onyx and Space Gray interior trims. Ford emphasized that the convertible's body structure, based on the Mustang GT convertible, is sufficiently rigid for its grand touring purpose, negating the need for additional reinforcements typically required for track performance. The soft-top roof operates with a simple button press, though its motion capabilities while driving remain unspecified.
The 2027 Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible is engineered to deliver an exhilarating driving experience, characterized by its powerful V-8 engine note and the freedom of open-air motoring. This vehicle transcends mere transportation, offering a profound sense of enjoyment and a bold statement on the road, echoing Ford's commitment to delivering passionate and innovative automotive engineering.
