JCB Hydromax Claims Title of World's Fastest Hydrogen-Powered Vehicle






A remarkable milestone has been achieved in the realm of sustainable transportation as the JCB Hydromax secured a new land speed record for hydrogen-fueled vehicles. This innovative machine recorded an average speed of 406.320 miles per hour at the iconic Bonneville Salt Flats, solidifying its position as the swiftest hydrogen-powered vehicle ever. Notably, its operation produced negligible harmful emissions, primarily releasing water, underscoring the environmental benefits of hydrogen combustion technology.
The record-breaking performance of the JCB Hydromax involved two separate high-speed runs conducted within an hour. The first pass clocked in at 400.623 mph, while the second soared to 412.135 mph, with the average of these two attempts confirming the new record. This achievement surpasses all prior hydrogen-powered speed records, irrespective of the propulsion system. Previously, the fastest hydrogen internal combustion engine vehicle, the BMW H2R, managed 185.5 mph in 2004, and the quickest hydrogen fuel cell car reached 303 mph. The JCB Hydromax now stands unchallenged as the fastest in this category.
The engineering marvel behind the JCB Hydromax lies in its propulsion system, which integrates two internal combustion engines fueled by hydrogen.
