Unveiling Tomorrow's Performance: The WRX STI Sport# Prototype

The Unveiling: Another Concept, Not a Production Model

Following a series of captivating teaser campaigns that fueled speculation among enthusiasts, Subaru has officially introduced the WRX STI Sport# Prototype. Despite initial hopes for a production-ready vehicle, the reveal in Japan confirms it as yet another concept, leaving fans yearning for a definitive market launch.

Visual Appeal: A Production-Ready Aesthetic

The WRX STI Sport# Prototype exhibits a design that closely mirrors a production model. It features a striking sedan body, complemented by prominent wheels and distinctive red accents that underscore its performance-oriented character. This aesthetic coherence suggests a strong intention for eventual mass production.

Power and Drivetrain: Familiarity with a Hint of More

Under the hood, the prototype is equipped with the same 2.4-liter boxer engine found in the current WRX. This engine, which delivers 271 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque in its standard form, is expected to receive performance enhancements in the STI variant. Power is channeled through a six-speed manual transmission to an all-wheel-drive system, maintaining Subaru's signature performance characteristics.

Anticipation and Uncertainty: The Road Ahead

Subaru has kept detailed specifications under wraps, offering only a "Coming Soon" message on its official channels. This ambiguity leaves enthusiasts in a state of hopeful anticipation, eagerly awaiting further announcements regarding the prototype's transition from concept to a consumer-available model. The community remains optimistic, given the prototype's near-production appearance.

Nissan Unveils Aggressive Aura NISMO RS Concept at Tokyo Auto Salon

Nissan recently unveiled a groundbreaking hybrid hot hatchback concept, the Aura NISMO RS, at the prestigious Tokyo Auto Salon. This aggressive, widebody vehicle, derived from the standard Note Aura NISMO, hints at a promising future for performance-oriented hybrid cars. The concept integrates an advanced e-Power hybrid system and distinctive motorsport-inspired aesthetics, signaling Nissan's continued innovation in the automotive world.

Nissan's Aura NISMO RS Concept Dominates Tokyo Auto Salon with Hybrid Power and Bold Design

At the recent Tokyo Auto Salon, Nissan captivated audiences with the debut of its Aura NISMO RS concept, a dynamic hybrid hot hatchback that redefines aggressive styling and performance. Building upon the foundation of the existing Note Aura NISMO, this concept showcases a significantly more assertive aesthetic, featuring flared fenders that expand its width by a notable 5.7 inches and an imposing stance lowered by 0.8 inches. These design enhancements are complemented by a robust front splitter, blade-like side skirts, and a massive rear diffuser, all meticulously crafted to optimize downforce and minimize drag. The vehicle's visual impact is further amplified by its exclusive Dark Matte NISMO Stealth Gray paint finish, accented with striking red details.

Beyond its eye-catching exterior, the Aura NISMO RS concept boasts a potent e-Power hybrid powertrain, borrowed from the X-Trail NISMO. This innovative series hybrid system propels the wheels exclusively via electric motors: a 201-horsepower e-motor at the front and a 134-horsepower e-motor at the rear. A 142-horsepower 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine functions as a generator, feeding power to the compact battery. This setup marks a significant upgrade from the standard NISMO model's 149 horsepower. To further enhance its performance capabilities, Nissan has equipped the concept with high-grip tires, a retuned e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive system for superior cornering, and advanced four-piston front and two-piston rear brakes for exceptional stopping power.

While Nissan describes the Aura NISMO RS concept as a "technical validation exercise" rather than a confirmed production model, its unveiling sparks considerable excitement for the future of sporty hybrids. Should it reach production, it is anticipated to remain a Japan-exclusive offering. However, Nissan has already confirmed plans to introduce its e-Power hybrid system to the U.S. market in the near future, raising hopes that performance-focused NISMO variants might eventually make their way to American shores, integrating thrilling driving dynamics with eco-conscious technology.

The Aura NISMO RS concept stands as a compelling testament to Nissan's innovative spirit, demonstrating how performance and environmental responsibility can coalesce in a truly exhilarating package. This visionary hybrid hot hatchback not only pushes the boundaries of automotive design but also inspires a fresh perspective on the future of high-performance vehicles, proving that excitement on the road can be achieved with advanced, sustainable technology.

Rivian Recalls 19,641 R1 Models Over Rear Suspension Issue

Rivian has initiated a recall affecting a substantial number of its R1S SUVs and R1T pickup trucks. This action addresses a critical safety concern related to the rear suspension system, specifically the toe link joint, which may have been improperly reassembled during previous service appointments. Approximately 19,641 vehicles, including both R1S and R1T models, from the 2022 to 2025 model years, are part of this recall. The defect could potentially lead to the toe link separating, significantly increasing the likelihood of an accident. Rivian has acknowledged one incident involving a single-vehicle crash with minor injuries believed to be associated with this defect.

The affected vehicles underwent rear suspension servicing between April 1, 2022, and March 10, 2025. During this period, Rivian utilized an outdated service protocol for disassembling and reassembling the rear suspension's toe link joint. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) documents highlight that this older method might result in the toe link detaching from the vehicle, posing a serious safety hazard. The recall encompasses 7,031 R1S SUVs and 12,610 R1T pickups, all of which fall within the specified service window.

The company plans to rectify the problem by replacing any potentially compromised rear toe links, utilizing an updated and safer service procedure. Rivian is committed to ensuring the safety of its customers and will begin notifying owners of the recall on February 24, 2026. At that time, the Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) of the affected vehicles will become searchable, allowing owners to verify if their vehicle is included in this recall. Owners are advised to promptly address this issue once notified to prevent potential safety risks on the road.

This widespread recall underscores the importance of stringent quality control in vehicle manufacturing and servicing. While Rivian has identified the root cause in an outdated service procedure, the incident serves as a reminder for all vehicle owners to heed recall notices promptly. The company's proactive steps to correct the defect and prevent further incidents demonstrate its commitment to customer safety and product integrity. Affected owners should prepare to have their vehicles inspected and repaired as soon as the notification process begins in early 2026.
