SolarEdge Unveils Next-Gen 'Lego-Like' Home Battery for Rapid Installation

SolarEdge is rolling out its next-generation home solar and battery storage platform across the US, with orders for SolarEdge Nexis now open.
Streamlined Home Energy Storage with Nexis
SolarEdge's new Nexis platform is designed to revolutionize home battery storage installations by addressing common challenges faced by installers. This innovative system significantly reduces installation times, simplifies wiring requirements, and minimizes the need for electrical panel upgrades. Furthermore, it offers greater flexibility in battery placement, making home energy storage more accessible and efficient for a wider range of residential projects. The platform's compact design and enhanced power delivery capabilities mark a significant advancement in residential solar and storage solutions.
The Nexis platform integrates SolarEdge's cutting-edge inverter technology, advanced battery storage units, and intelligent energy management software into a cohesive, space-saving system. This integration allows for increased power output while occupying less physical space compared to previous models. Additionally, Nexis supports AC-coupled configurations, providing installers with versatile options for both new residential builds and existing home retrofits. Following its successful launch in Germany, where it garnered substantial demand due to its modular design and straightforward installation, Nexis is now poised to transform the US home energy market.
Modular Design and Enhanced Performance
A key innovation of the Nexis system lies in its battery architecture. Unlike traditional large and cumbersome battery packs, Nexis utilizes lightweight, modular battery units that connect effortlessly without requiring any inter-module wiring. This 'Lego-like' assembly process allows for rapid deployment, with SolarEdge claiming an installation time of under 30 minutes. The battery capacity is highly scalable, starting at 5 kilowatt-hours (kWh) and expandable up to 80 kWh, enabling homeowners to customize their storage solutions for diverse needs, from essential backup power to comprehensive whole-home systems.
The accompanying new inverter boasts an impressive power delivery of up to 13 kilowatts (kW) when connected to the grid and up to 14.5 kW during power outages. Notably, the system supports up to 185 locked rotor amps (LRA), crucial for starting large HVAC units during backup operations. Nexis also optimizes spatial efficiency, requiring up to 40% less wall space than comparable systems, and a single inverter platform can manage residential installations ranging from 3.8 kW to 13 kW. The US-manufactured components further ensure compliance with domestic content requirements, providing an additional benefit for eligible projects.
