Segway has launched a significant update to its compact utility e-bike line with the introduction of the MUXI Pro. This new model incorporates a range of advanced features, including automated electronic gear changes, enhanced front suspension for a smoother ride, and an increased pedal-assisted top speed. The MUXI Pro is designed to be a versatile replacement for conventional vehicles, offering a robust and intelligent solution for daily transportation and cargo hauling.
Introducing the Segway MUXI Pro: Innovation in E-Cargo Mobility
On September 15, 2026, Segway officially announced the MUXI Pro, an evolution of its popular short-tail cargo e-bike. This latest iteration retains the distinctive, easy-access step-through frame while integrating cutting-edge technology to improve its functionality and user experience. Among its most notable enhancements is a 9-speed electronic drivetrain that facilitates automatic shifting, allowing riders to focus solely on the journey without manual gear adjustments. This system enables the e-bike to achieve an impressive pedal-assisted speed of up to 28 mph (45 km/h), with customizable Class 1, 2, or 3 operational modes via the Segway app, accommodating various local regulations.
The power behind the MUXI Pro comes from a potent 750W direct-drive rear motor, delivering 80 Nm of torque, coupled with a 716Wh battery. Segway estimates a range of up to 73 miles (117 km), though actual mileage will naturally fluctuate based on factors such as terrain, rider weight, and assistance level. The direct-drive motor also supports regenerative braking, an energy-efficient feature that recharges the battery during deceleration, alongside Hill Descent Control to maintain steady speeds on declines and Hill-Start Assist to prevent rollback on inclines. Furthermore, the bike is equipped with traction control to mitigate rear wheelspin, enhancing safety and stability.
Addressing a common limitation in many utility e-bikes, the MUXI Pro now features a 70mm front suspension fork, providing a more comfortable ride over varied surfaces. Stopping power is managed by reliable hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors, and the bike rides on robust 20x3-inch tires. Practical additions include standard front and rear fenders, as well as turn signals seamlessly integrated into the lighting system, boosting visibility and safety.
With a substantial total payload capacity of 418 lb (190 kg), the MUXI Pro is built for heavy-duty use. Segway also offers an optional passenger kit, designed to safely transport individuals weighing up to 120 lb (54 kg), along with front and center basket options for additional storage. Despite its robust build and capabilities, weighing in at 82.2 lb (37.3 kg), the MUXI Pro maintains a compact footprint, distinguishing it from bulkier long-tail cargo bikes.
The MUXI Pro is also packed with Segway's expanding array of smart features. These include Apple Find My integration, GPS tracking, proximity-based AirLock for enhanced security, a Lost Mode, and over-the-air (OTA) updates. A vibrant color TFT display with navigation capabilities further enriches the riding experience. It should be noted that some connected services, such as GPS and data connectivity, may require a subscription after the initial year. The Segway MUXI Pro will be available in Anthracite and Reef Blue color options, with a retail price of $1,999.99. Sales are slated to commence on September 22 through authorized Segway dealers and the company's online store.
The introduction of the Segway MUXI Pro marks a significant stride in the evolution of urban electric mobility. Its blend of automated technology, robust utility, and smart features positions it not just as an e-bike, but as a practical, eco-friendly alternative to traditional vehicles. This advancement highlights the growing demand for intelligent, versatile, and sustainable transportation solutions in our increasingly connected world. It inspires a vision of cities where daily commutes and errands are handled with greater ease, efficiency, and environmental consciousness, encouraging more individuals to embrace the future of personal electric transport.
