Unveiling Kia's Latest Electric Vehicle: The PV7's Debut and Core Features
Kia has officially presented its newest electric van, the PV7, marking a significant addition to its Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) range. Following the successful PV5, this larger electric model aims to capture a substantial share of the light commercial vehicle (LCV) market. The PV7 made its global debut at the IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover, Germany, highlighting its robust design and capabilities.
Power and Endurance: Delving into the PV7's Battery and Performance Specifications
The PV7 is built on the advanced E-GMP.S platform, shared with the PV5, which allows for a highly adaptable and spacious interior due to its flat floor architecture. Customers will have a choice between two high-capacity nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) battery packs: 71.5 kWh and 96.2 kWh. The Long Range Cargo variant promises an impressive all-electric driving range of over 460 km (285 miles) on the WLTP cycle. Initially, the PV7 will feature front-wheel drive, with an all-wheel drive option planned for future release. Its electric powertrain delivers up to 268 horsepower (200 kW) and 309 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque, and with 800V architecture, it can fast charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 25 minutes using a 350 kW DC fast charger.
Innovative Interior: A Blend of Flexibility, Spaciousness, and Cutting-Edge Technology
The interior of the Kia PV7 prioritizes flexibility and advanced technology. Equipped with Hyundai's Pleos Connect infotainment system, it features large 12.9-inch and 14.6-inch displays. This system operates on Android Automotive OS, providing a user experience similar to a smartphone, complete with customizable screens and access to various applications. Additionally, the PV7 includes Gleo AI, an intelligent in-car companion capable of answering questions, managing navigation, and controlling various vehicle functions.
Dimensions and Adaptability: Understanding the PV7's Size and Cargo Capabilities
Measuring 5,350 mm (17.55 ft) in length, 1,995 mm in width, and 1,990 mm in height, with a 3,500 mm wheelbase, the PV7 Passenger and Cargo models are notably larger than their PV5 counterpart and even surpass the long-wheelbase Volkswagen ID. Buzz. The PV7 Cargo offers significant cargo capacity, with 2- and 3-seat configurations providing up to 6.1 cubic meters of space, expandable to 8 cubic meters with the High Roof option. It can handle a maximum payload of up to 1,165 kg (2,568 lbs) for the Long version and 1,200 kg (2,645 lbs) for the compact model, featuring a dedicated heavy-loading driving mode for optimized performance. Buyers can also choose between twin-swing tailgate doors or a lift-up tailgate for enhanced convenience. Like the PV5, the PV7 includes vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities, allowing it to power external devices, tools, or camping equipment.
Future Expansion: An Array of Upcoming Variants and Conversions
The PV7 Passenger model is specifically designed for shuttle services, rentals, and family use, accommodating up to nine passengers globally, and up to eleven in Korea. The 7-seat variant comes with Long-Rail Easy Remove Seats, enabling various interior layouts, while the 9-seat model offers options with or without a fourth row. Kia plans to roll out 23 different PV7 variants in the coming years, encompassing Cargo (compact, long, high roof) and Passenger (compact, long) models, a Chassis Cab, and a wide array of conversion options. The PV7 Passenger and Cargo are slated for launch in Korea and Europe in the latter half of 2027, with subsequent introductions to other markets and the release of additional derivatives and conversions. Given the PV5's success as Europe's top-selling small electric van, the PV7, with its enhanced space and adaptability, is poised for even greater market success.
