This translated to an impressive 150 miles of additional range in a mere 23 minutes.

On the charging front, the new models, now equipped with a NACS port, benefit from broader compatibility with charging networks, including Tesla’s extensive Supercharger infrastructure. Despite the larger battery, the 10-to-90 percent charging time was reduced by two minutes compared to the older version. The 2026 model achieved a peak charging rate of 260 kilowatts and averaged 140 kilowatts, adding 72.5 kilowatts during the test. Moreover, topping up 150 miles of range now takes just 16 minutes, a considerable improvement over the previous 23 minutes.

Both the 2022 and the latest Ioniq 5 models were evaluated using identical 255/45R-20 Michelin Primacy Tour all-season tires, eliminating tire variations as a factor in the range assessments. Furthermore, weather conditions during both test periods were consistently temperate summer days, with minimal temperature differences, ensuring that environmental variables did not unduly influence the outcomes. These consistent testing parameters underscore the genuine improvements in the Ioniq 5's battery technology and charging efficiency.
