Toyota's Three-Row Electric SUV Faces Further Delays

Toyota has announced an additional postponement for its inaugural three-row electric SUV, the Highlander BEV. Originally anticipated for release by the end of this year, consumers will now have to wait until 2027 or potentially later. This decision also affects the start of production at Toyota's Kentucky facility, which was initially scheduled for the second half of 2026. This delay offers the company an opportunity to implement further refinements, as stated by a company representative.

Despite this setback for the electric version, the gasoline and hybrid models of the Highlander will continue to be produced and available. The Subaru Getaway, which shares the same TNGA-K EV platform and is slated for production alongside the Highlander EV in Kentucky, is also experiencing similar delays. When it eventually launches, the 2027 Toyota Highlander EV will be offered in Limited and XLE trims, with both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.

The Highlander EV is designed to include two battery options: a 77 kWh pack offering up to 287 miles of range, and a 95.8 kWh pack providing up to 320 miles in its front-wheel-drive variant. The vehicle's interior will boast Toyota's advanced Audio Multimedia System, featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14-inch central infotainment touchscreen.
