Pajari Dominates Friday Afternoon Stages at Rally Estonia
Sami Pajari, representing Toyota, secured an initial lead at Rally Estonia by achieving a clean sweep in all three stages conducted on Friday afternoon.
The Finnish driver showcased exceptional skill on Estonia's rapid gravel roads, completing the first series of stages undefeated. This performance gave him a 4.1-second advantage over his teammate, Oliver Solberg, last year's event champion. Solberg, however, expressed dissatisfaction with his GR Yaris Rally1, finding himself unable to recapture the comfort and performance he experienced during his debut victory in the Toyota Rally1 last year. Despite his discomfort, Solberg moved into second place after the second stage, Karaski 1, finishing just 0.3 seconds slower than Pajari. He maintained a narrow 0.8-second lead over Hyundai's Adrien Fourmaux as they headed into a remote tire-fitting zone. Fourmaux, leading Hyundai's efforts, managed to avoid a serious incident after a spectacular jump in SS2 caused minor front-end damage to his i20 N Rally1. He concluded the loop 4.9 seconds behind the leader. Thierry Neuville reported issues with his i20 N's balance but secured fourth, 3.5 seconds ahead of the reigning world champion, Sebastien Ogier. Ogier trailed Pajari by 14.6 seconds, while championship leader Elfyn Evans faced the most challenging road conditions, placing him further down the field. Martins Sesks, despite a 20-second penalty for a service delay due to a shakedown incident, recovered to tenth place, 1.3 seconds behind Evans. M-Sport Ford's Jon Armstrong finished eleventh in the Rally1 category after losing considerable time in the opening stage due to a front-left puncture.
In the WRC2 category, Estonia's Robert Virves held a slim 0.2-second lead over Finland's Mikko Heikkila, with fellow Estonian Patrick Enok in third, 3.2 seconds adrift. Competitors are scheduled to rerun these stages later in the afternoon, culminating in a super special stage to conclude the day's events.
