North Wilkesboro Returns to All-Star Race, Dover Reclaims Points Event in 2027 NASCAR Schedule Shuffle

In a strategic calendar adjustment for 2027, North Wilkesboro Speedway is set to reclaim its role as the venue for NASCAR's annual All-Star Race, following a recent stint as a championship points event. This change marks a return to tradition for the historic track, which last hosted a points-paying race in 1996 before its reintroduction this year. The 2027 All-Star weekend will feature an expanded program, incorporating both the O'Reilly and Craftsman Truck Series, promising an action-packed triple-header from May 21-23, just before the iconic Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Speedway Motorsports President and CEO, Marcus Smith, expressed immense enthusiasm for this decision, drawing parallels to the electrifying atmosphere of past superspeedway night races. He emphasized the unique appeal of North Wilkesboro as a must-visit destination for racing enthusiasts and highlighted the organization's commitment to delivering an unforgettable experience. While the specific format for the 2027 All-Star Race is still under development, there are indications that NASCAR is exploring innovative concepts, potentially utilizing North Wilkesboro as a proving ground for future enhancements to the Cup Series.
Concurrently, Dover Motor Speedway, which momentarily surrendered its points race to host the 2026 All-Star event, is slated to rejoin the championship circuit in 2027. A 400-lap Cup Series race, alongside the NASCAR O'Reilly Series, is scheduled for May 15-16, preceding the North Wilkesboro weekend. Mike Tatoian, President and General Manager of Dover Motor Speedway, reiterated the organization's dedication to its fanbase, asserting that their primary focus remains on creating memorable experiences and continuously elevating the entertainment value of events at 'The Monster Mile' for racing fans.
This dynamic shift in the NASCAR schedule reflects a forward-thinking approach to harness the rich heritage of its venues while also embracing opportunities for innovation and fan engagement. By balancing historical significance with a vision for future development, NASCAR aims to deliver exhilarating race weekends that captivate both seasoned enthusiasts and new audiences alike, reinforcing the vibrant spirit of motorsports.
