Reports emerging from a global dealer conference on November 11 at the McLaren Creation Centre in Bicester, England, confirm the British manufacturer's intent to launch its first SUV. Internally codenamed "P47," this vehicle is anticipated to feature a hybrid V-8 engine. Attendees at the event were given a glimpse of a clay model of the P47, which was described as a five-seater with a robust and sculptural design, suggesting a strong road presence. Its dimensions are said to be comparable to, or slightly larger than, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, and the model was showcased with imposing 24-inch wheels.
While McLaren has yet to officially confirm the P47's production, the company's recent statements offer strong indications. Earlier in September, newly appointed CEO Nick Collins hinted at the development of a vehicle designed with "more than two seats," a clear departure from McLaren's traditional two-seater supercar lineup and a strong clue about the impending SUV. The SUV is not the sole focus of McLaren's ambitious product strategy. The manufacturer's roadmap through 2030 includes annual new model introductions. The same year will also see the unveiling of a special final edition of the existing 750S model, distinguished by a prominent roof scoop and an enlarged rear wing, catering to enthusiasts seeking enhanced performance and exclusivity.
A notable absence from the dealer meeting discussions was any mention of McLaren's rumored all-electric supercar. CEO Collins previously acknowledged that an electric vehicle is under development but emphasized it is not an immediate priority.
