Kia Introduces Advanced Electric Van: The PV7 with 800V Architecture and Versatile Body Styles





Kia, a frontrunner in the electric van market, has unveiled its latest innovation, the PV7, which builds upon the acclaimed foundation of its predecessor, the PV5. This new model is designed to offer a more expansive and technologically advanced solution, catering to a wider array of logistical and personal transportation demands. The PV7's introduction signifies Kia's continued commitment to advancing electric vehicle capabilities within the utility segment.
Kia PV7: A New Era for Electric Utility Vehicles
The Kia PV7, set to debut in Korea and Europe in 2027, represents a significant step forward in electric utility vehicles. While maintaining a similar aesthetic to the PV5, the PV7 distinguishes itself with enhanced dimensions and a host of technological upgrades. A core innovation is its 800-volt charging system, which enables a rapid charging time of approximately 20 minutes to go from 10% to 80% state-of-charge when utilizing a 350 kW charger. This feature is a game-changer for businesses and individuals requiring quick turnarounds.
Under the hood, the PV7 offers a standard 71.5 kWh battery, which was previously an optional upgrade for the PV5, and introduces an even more robust 96.2 kWh battery exclusive to the PV7. The initial powertrain configuration includes a single-motor, front-wheel-drive setup delivering 268 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. A dual-motor, all-wheel-drive option is also planned for future release. With the larger battery, the PV7 boasts an impressive range of up to 289 miles on the WLTP cycle in its lightest 'Long Range Cargo' variant.
The PV7 offers versatile body styles, including 'Cargo' and 'Passenger' models. The Cargo variant, designed for commercial use, comes in 'Compact,' 'Long,' and 'High Roof' configurations. The High Roof version provides an expansive 86 square feet of interior space, while the Long body can accommodate up to three Euro pallets and has a payload capacity of 2,568 pounds. Practical features such as a choice of tailgate styles (lift-up or barn-door), a load-through bulkhead, and a 'Smart Walkaway' system that automatically closes the sliding door further enhance its utility. For cargo models, seating is limited to two or three occupants.
Conversely, the Passenger model is engineered for people transport, with seating options for seven or nine passengers in most regions, and up to eleven in Korea. This makes it ideal for shuttle services, private transport, or large families. Passengers benefit from dedicated climate control, 100W USB-C chargers, and flexible Long-Rail Easy Remove Seats, ensuring comfort and convenience during travel.
While the PV7's arrival in the U.S. market is not confirmed, its advanced specifications and flexible design position it as a compelling contender in the global electric van sector, promising to build on Kia's established reputation for reliable and innovative electric vehicles.
