Italian Logistics Firm Deploys First MAN eTGX Electric Trucks

Pioneering Sustainable Road Freight: Italy's New Electric Truck Era
Innovative Electric Trucks Join Italian Fleet, Marking a New Era in Sustainable Logistics
Italian logistics leader Fratelli Foppiani Trasporti has recently begun operating the cutting-edge MAN eTGX electric trucks. This initiative sees the deployment of both a 4x2 semi-tractor and a 6x2-4 rigid truck, each outfitted with remarkably powerful battery systems, signaling a significant leap in adopting green transportation solutions. These advanced vehicles are among the initial mass-produced electric trucks from the German manufacturer to be delivered to customers, highlighting a growing shift towards electrifying heavy-duty transport.
Advanced Specifications and Operational Capabilities of the New Electric Fleet
The electric trucks, ordered by the Italian shipping company in 2023, have proven to be well worth the anticipation. The 6x2-4 rigid model features a formidable 445 kWh modular battery pack, while the 4x2 semi-tractor is equipped with an even larger 534 kWh pack. Beyond their impressive power sources, these trucks integrate a suite of advanced features including MAN SafeStop Assist for enhanced safety, MAN OptiView digital mirrors for improved visibility, a comfortable GM cab, an efficient regenerative braking system, a TipMatic 4 semi-automatic transmission, and comprehensive MAN Digital Services packages. These technologies collectively aim to optimize operational efficiency and driver experience.
Strategic Deployment and Environmental Impact Across Italian Routes
The substantial battery capacities of the eTGX trucks ensure they possess ample range to effectively manage Fratelli Foppiani's existing 4x2 routes. These primary routes extend from Corsico (Milan) to key locations such as Rozzano, Voghera, and Brescia. Furthermore, the rigid truck will operate from Busto Arsizio (Varese), providing service across the Milan and Bergamo regions of Italy. This strategic deployment underscores a commitment to reducing emissions and fostering a more sustainable logistics network throughout these vital industrial corridors.
Industry Leadership and Collaborative Vision for a Greener Future
Marc Martinez, the Managing Director of MAN Truck & Bus Italia, commented on this significant milestone, stating that the delivery marks a crucial advancement for sustainable transport within Italy. He expressed immense pride in achieving this alongside Fratelli Foppiani, a long-standing partner recognized for its vision and courage in embracing innovation. This collaboration exemplifies a shared commitment to pioneering environmentally friendly solutions in the commercial vehicle sector.
Milestone Celebration and Economic Advantages of Electric Truck Adoption
The formal handover of these electric trucks took place during a ceremony held at Fratelli Foppiani's Corsico headquarters, a moment that also celebrated the company's 65th anniversary. This dual celebration highlights both a rich history and a future-forward approach. MAN Trucks' fleet advisors project that, primarily due to the significantly higher diesel fuel prices in Europe compared to the US, an electric semi-truck can achieve a return on investment in approximately three years. This economic benefit, coupled with environmental advantages, makes the transition to electric fleets an increasingly attractive proposition for logistics companies.
