Friction One Bolsters Brake Technology with Acquisition of Raybestos R&D Lab

Friction One has announced a significant strategic move, integrating the research, development, and testing laboratory previously managed by BPI in McHenry, Illinois, into its operations. This acquisition is a natural progression following Friction One's recent procurement of the venerable Raybestos brand and its product formulations. The company views this as a crucial step in internalizing the core engineering foundation that has historically underpinned the quality and innovation associated with Raybestos products.
The newly acquired facility is a comprehensive hub for brake technology, featuring an impressive array of testing equipment. Among its assets are seven state-of-the-art dynamometers, including two Link Model 3900 units, alongside Link Model 2900 and 3000 dynamometers, complete with all necessary fixtures, tooling, and support systems. Additionally, the acquisition includes two Link Model 600 Chase testing machines and the entire fleet of material analysis equipment, along with the specific raw materials historically utilized in the manufacturing of Raybestos brake pads. This integrated approach ensures that Friction One gains complete control over the research and development lifecycle of its brake products.
Looking ahead, Friction One is committed to further enhancing the laboratory's capabilities. Plans are already in motion to upgrade several of the newly acquired dynamometers with advanced brake particulate emissions testing equipment. This strategic investment will enable the company to conduct in-house testing to meet the stringent new Euro 7 brake particulate emissions limits, underscoring Friction One's dedication to environmental responsibility and future-proofing its product line.
