Ford Recalls 42,000 Expeditions and Super Duty Trucks Over Headlight Malfunction

Ford has announced a recall affecting approximately 42,000 Expedition SUVs and Super Duty trucks. This action addresses a manufacturing defect involving a contaminated LED chip within the headlight assemblies, which could lead to the failure of essential lighting features. The recall targets specific model years, with the 2025 to 2027 Expedition and 2026 F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty vehicles included.

Despite the broad scope of the recall, Ford estimates that only a small fraction, roughly one percent, of the vehicles produced within these ranges are likely to have the faulty component. Nevertheless, every vehicle covered by the campaign will be inspected by dealerships, and any defective headlight units will be replaced without cost to the owner. This proactive measure aims to mitigate potential safety hazards, as the compromised LED chip could impact the functionality of daytime running lights, parking lights, low beams, and high beams, thereby diminishing driver visibility, particularly during nighttime or adverse weather conditions.

To alert drivers to the problem, affected vehicles are equipped with a dashboard warning light that illuminates upon detecting reduced low or high beam performance. This early notification system allows owners to address the issue before a complete headlight failure occurs. Ford has reported six warranty claims and an equal number of field reports related to this defect but, fortunately, no accidents or injuries have been attributed to the headlight malfunction thus far. The company plans to inform dealers of the recall by late October 2026, with owner notifications to follow in November 2026. Owners can proactively check their vehicle's recall status using their VIN on the NHTSA website under recall number 26V606.

This recall underscores the automotive industry's commitment to vehicle safety and continuous improvement. Timely identification and resolution of such issues, even those affecting a small percentage of vehicles, are crucial for protecting consumers and maintaining public trust. It reinforces the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and prompt attention to recall notices, ensuring that all safety-related components function as intended.

Nissan's Frontier Pro/Navara Pro Truck Goes Global: Mexico First, Hybrid and ICE Options

Nissan is expanding the reach of its Chinese-manufactured pickup, the Frontier Pro (also known as Navara Pro), beyond its initial Chinese market introduction. First revealed at Auto Shanghai in April 2025, this versatile truck is now set for international distribution. This strategic move signifies a shift in Nissan's global manufacturing and export approach, leveraging its operations in China to serve diverse markets.

This initiative represents a significant step for Nissan, transforming what was initially perceived as a China-specific model into a globally available offering. The company is actively positioning its Chinese manufacturing capabilities as a central hub for developing and producing vehicles for export, demonstrating a new facet of its international business strategy.

Global Expansion and Market Introduction

The Frontier Pro will first arrive in Mexico this month, marking its debut outside of China. Priced at approximately $50,000 (899,900 pesos), the Mexican version features an advanced electrified powertrain. It combines a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor, delivering a robust 350 horsepower and 447 pound-feet of torque. This setup provides an impressive total driving range of 600 miles, with the capability of covering 47 miles purely on electric power, supported by a 20-kWh battery pack. Following its launch in Mexico, the pickup is slated for release in the Philippines, the Middle East, and other Latin American countries later this year. By 2027, Australia and New Zealand are expected to join the list as the initial right-hand-drive markets, further extending the vehicle’s global footprint.

Nissan’s decision to introduce the Frontier Pro/Navara Pro to these diverse markets underscores its commitment to meeting varied regional demands with a versatile and technologically advanced product. The truck's availability with both combustion engines and plug-in hybrid options allows for adaptation to different market preferences and regulatory environments. This broad rollout strategy, beginning with key markets like Mexico and expanding to others, illustrates Nissan's ambition to regain market traction and compete effectively in the global automotive landscape. The PHEV variant, with its significant power output and impressive electric range, positions it competitively within the growing electrified pickup segment, appealing to customers seeking both performance and environmental efficiency.

Diverse Powertrain Options and Strategic Manufacturing

Nissan’s global strategy for the Frontier Pro/Navara Pro emphasizes powertrain flexibility, ensuring the truck meets the specific needs of various international markets. While the plug-in hybrid system, featuring a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine combined with an electric motor, delivers over 402 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque (with an 84-mile electric range on China's CLTC cycle), traditional internal-combustion engine (ICE) versions will also be available. The Middle East, for instance, will receive the ICE variant, whereas Latin America, ASEAN regions, and Oceania will primarily get the plug-in hybrid. This tailored approach highlights Nissan’s understanding of regional preferences and infrastructure. Additionally, the truck offers advanced features like intelligent all-wheel drive, selectable 4High and 4Low modes, an electromechanical rear differential lock, and specialized driving modes (Hybrid, Pure Electric, Performance, and Snow), alongside vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, allowing it to supply up to 6 kW of power for external equipment.

This global export model signifies a fundamental shift in Nissan’s manufacturing philosophy, with its Chinese joint venture, Zhengzhou Nissan, playing a pivotal role. The Frontier Pro/Navara Pro is the first Nissan model specifically developed and manufactured in China for international export. This approach allows Nissan to harness the efficiency and competitive development capabilities of the Chinese automotive industry, merging them with Nissan’s established engineering and quality standards. This move is part of a broader trend where major automakers are deepening their ties with Chinese manufacturing to facilitate international exports. Nissan views China not merely as a sales market but as an integral engineering and production base, enabling faster development cycles and cost-effective solutions. This strategy is also being applied to other models, such as the N7 electric sedan, which is planned for export from China to markets in ASEAN and Latin America, underscoring China’s growing importance in Nissan’s global product and manufacturing strategy. While American truck buyers won't see this model due to import tariffs, its global distribution reflects Nissan's adaptability and determination to rebound in the competitive automotive sector.
