BMW Unveils High-Performance 2027 iX3 M60 Electric SUV

BMW is set to redefine the electric luxury SUV segment with the introduction of the 2027 iX3 M60, a performance-oriented model that promises an exhilarating driving experience. This new addition boasts a potent 603-horsepower all-wheel-drive system, propelling it from 0 to 62 mph in a mere 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of 149 mph. While the official EPA-estimated range is yet to be announced, enthusiasts can look forward to placing orders in January 2027, with pricing expected to start above $70,000, offering a premium and powerful electric vehicle option.
For those who found the standard iX3 50 lacking in raw power, the 2027 BMW iX3 M60 steps up to the plate with significant enhancements. Unlike a full-fledged M car, this variant still carries the iconic M badge, signifying its elevated performance capabilities. Its twin electric motors deliver a formidable 603 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels, a substantial increase over the iX3 50's 463 horsepower and 476 pound-feet. This power surge is attributed to a refined rear-mounted electric motor featuring a redesigned stator and a more robust inverter. Additionally, a higher maximum rotor speed and a longer gear ratio contribute to its impressive 149 mph top speed, a considerable improvement from the iX3 50's 130 mph.
Both the iX3 50 xDrive and the M60 xDrive share an advanced 800-volt electrical architecture, incorporating a 112-kWh battery pack. Their charging capacity peaks at an impressive 400 kW. While the iX3 50 offers an EPA-estimated range of up to 434 miles, the M60's specific range is still pending official release. However, given its standard 21-inch wheels and the option for even larger 22-inchers, it's anticipated that the M60's range will likely fall below 400 miles.
Visually, the iX3 M60 distinguishes itself with a prominent rear badge, a distinctive roof spoiler, and unique lighting elements. The front fascia proudly displays the M logo and a three-element design, with an option for yellow lights that pay homage to BMW's rich motorsports heritage. Beyond aesthetics, the iX3 M60 is equipped with performance hardware to match its sporty appearance. This includes a specially tuned suspension with adaptive dampers, a variable steering ratio, enhanced braking components, and an electronically controlled rear differential. Its dynamic systems are seamlessly managed by BMW's innovative "Heart of Joy superbrain," a centralized control unit integrated into every Neue Klasse EV.
Inside the cabin, drivers will be greeted by BMW's futuristic dashboard, which transforms the traditional instrument cluster into a sprawling pillar-to-pillar display. Optional features include a 3-D head-up display and front sport seats designed to provide superior support during aggressive cornering. The standard 17.9-inch hexagonal touchscreen, angled towards the driver, is a key highlight. The M60's interior is further elevated with M-specific accents, such as a steering wheel with dedicated buttons for Boost mode and customizable drive settings. Audiophiles will appreciate the standard 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos support. For highway journeys, the iX3 offers hands-free driving up to 85 mph, though the SAE Level 2 system still requires driver attention to the road.
The 2027 BMW iX3 M60 is poised to enter the market with orders commencing at the close of January next year, and production slated to begin at BMW's Hungarian facility in the spring. While the precise cost is yet to be revealed, considering the iX3 50 starts at $62,850, it is reasonable to expect the high-performance M60 variant to carry a price tag exceeding $70,000, reflecting its enhanced power and features.
