Empowering Women with Car Maintenance Skills in Ashburton

A unique initiative is underway as the local council collaborates with Toyota Ashburton and Zonta to offer a complimentary session for women focusing on vehicle upkeep. This workshop, titled "Girls Can Do Maintenance," aims to educate participants on essential tasks such as replacing windshield wipers and checking oil levels. Scheduled to take place at Ashburton Toyota on the evening of May 19th, this event invites women to gain hands-on experience while enjoying refreshments provided by Zonta.
The Group Manager of Infrastructure and Open Spaces, Neil McCann, highlighted that Ashburton Toyota would supply both vehicles and skilled technicians for the session. Additionally, attendees will receive a gift bag from the road safety team. The event will feature various interactive stations within Toyota's workshop, fostering practical learning opportunities. Mr. McCann noted the success of similar programs in Timaru, emphasizing the anticipated high turnout and educational value regarding basic automotive care.
Beyond understanding engine components and potential issues, the session will also cover valuable insights into purchasing a car, including what to look for and deciphering vehicle star safety ratings. Attendees will have the opportunity to inquire about modern safety technologies incorporated into today's automobiles. Mr. McCann assured a welcoming atmosphere designed to empower women across all age groups with increased independence through enhanced vehicle knowledge.
This workshop caters exclusively to individuals aged 18 and above. Registration details can be found via the official event page. By participating, women will not only acquire vital skills but also contribute to building confidence in managing their personal transport needs.
Through this collaborative effort, the organizers aim to provide a supportive platform where women can learn, engage, and ultimately enhance their understanding of automobile maintenance. The event exemplifies how community partnerships can foster education and empowerment among diverse groups.
