Dallas Love Field Airport Deploys Electric Aircraft Fire Truck

Dallas Love Field Airport has recently enhanced its emergency response infrastructure with the introduction of the world's first electric aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) vehicle. This state-of-the-art electric fire truck, a Rosenbauer PANTHER 6x6, is now fully supported by a high-capacity 400 kW fast charger provided by XCharge North America, ensuring it remains operational and prepared for any emergency. The charging unit has been strategically placed at the airport's newly inaugurated Station 21, marking a significant advancement in the airport's commitment to fleet electrification.
This electric PANTHER offers remarkable performance improvements over its traditional diesel counterparts. Weighing 91,000 pounds, it can reach 50 mph in under 20 seconds using its Boost Mode, a notable enhancement compared to the 28 seconds required by diesel models. Furthermore, its electric water pump delivers an impressive 2,370 gallons per minute, projecting water or foam up to 250 feet, which is a 40% increase in reach. This extended range allows firefighters to manage incidents from a safer distance. Additionally, the electric motors dramatically reduce operational noise by approximately 50%, fostering clearer communication among emergency teams during critical situations.
The successful integration of this advanced electric fire truck at Dallas Love Field is a testament to the collaborative efforts between Dallas Fire-Rescue and Rosenbauer. The vehicle is currently undergoing a rigorous six-month testing phase, during which its performance in daily operations, training exercises, and comparative analysis against existing fire trucks is being meticulously evaluated.
