Annual Car Show in Norfolk Raises Funds for Local Causes

This weekend, the town of Norfolk is set to become a hub for motor vehicle enthusiasts as the fifth annual Car Show for a Cause takes place. Organized by the Norfolk Area Street Cars, this event has expanded beyond its traditional Saturday showcase on Main Street. This year, it will also feature a downtown cruise night on Friday and a "Coffee and Cars" gathering at Starbucks on Sunday morning. All proceeds from the car show will benefit two local causes: a teenage girl recovering from meningitis and a mother battling metastatic breast cancer. The organizers emphasize their commitment to giving back to the community, with every penny raised going directly to these beneficiaries.
The 2023 edition of the Car Show for a Cause promises to be more exciting than ever. Organizer Steve Jorgensen shared that his team has introduced new classes and trophies to enhance the experience. Additionally, they have chosen two compelling causes to support this year. One beneficiary is a 14-year-old student from Norfolk who was airlifted to Omaha Children's Hospital after being diagnosed with meningitis. She spent over a month in hospital care and rehabilitation but remains an active member of her high school dance team. The second cause involves a dedicated mother of two from Meadow Grove, who manages a Dollar General store despite her ongoing battle with metastatic breast cancer.
Jorgensen expressed pride in how the event has grown since its inception. What sets Norfolk's car show apart from others in the Midwest is its unwavering focus on community support. Unlike other events, the Norfolk car show clearly communicates where the funds are directed. This transparency has helped attract participants from six states outside Nebraska, including Wisconsin, which is the farthest distance traveled by a participant this year. Enthusiasts from Iowa, South Dakota, and Missouri will also join the festivities, bringing along classic vehicles like a 1966 Ford F-250 from Cedarburg, Wisconsin.
A significant factor contributing to the success of the car show is the strong backing of local businesses. Jorgensen acknowledged the invaluable support from downtown shops and Norfolk businesses, some of which have contributed items for gift bags or allowed the use of their facilities. The Downtown Coffee Company, for instance, has permitted the organizers to set up in front of its premises. Moreover, the farmers market will coincide with the early part of the car show, offering attendees another attraction to enjoy.
Jorgensen praised his committee for their hard work leading up to the event. He emphasized that organizing such a large-scale activity requires teamwork and dedication. With numerous vendors and even the National Guard displaying their vehicles, the car show is poised to be a memorable occasion. As long as the weather cooperates, it promises to be a fantastic day for both participants and spectators alike.
