Williams Unveils Retro Livery for Spanish Grand Prix

Williams Racing is set to captivate racing enthusiasts at the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid by unveiling a distinctive livery on its FW48 vehicle. This unique design, echoing the aesthetics of 1981, serves as a poignant tribute to the team's historic FW07C, which secured the constructors' championship in that very year.
Williams Honors Legacy at Spanish Grand Prix with Special Livery
On Tuesday evening, September 10, 2026, Williams Racing officially presented its new car livery during an exclusive fan gathering held at Madrid's iconic Plaza de Callao. The striking white, green, and navy blue color scheme was specifically crafted to honor the legendary FW07C, the car that led Williams to its constructor's championship victory back in 1981. This grand reveal precedes the Spanish Grand Prix, where Formula 1 makes a long-awaited return to the Spanish capital after more than four decades. The 1981 season marked F1's last visit to Madrid, with racing legends Alan Jones and Carlos Reutemann competing at the Circuito de Jarama.
The upcoming Grand Prix will be hosted at the brand-new Madring circuit, an innovative 22-turn track that seamlessly integrates permanent racing sections with public roads. Team principal James Vowles articulated the significance of this special livery, stating, "Our drive to reclaim the forefront of the grid is profoundly influenced by our past accomplishments. I am immensely proud to commemorate this legacy through Atlassian’s bespoke livery, forging a link between the team that once raced at Jarama and the team we are evolving into today, through dedicated collaboration, enhanced technological advancements, and genuine creativity." He added, "The car's appearance is spectacular, and I eagerly anticipate seeing it navigate the Madrid circuit."
Adding to the excitement, Carlos Sainz, a local hero and an ambassador for the Madring circuit, expressed his enthusiasm for his home race. "This is a momentous week for me – my first true home race in Madrid," Sainz remarked. "Witnessing the development of this circuit over the past few months has been extraordinary. It is an immense privilege to bring F1 back to Madrid, the city where I first experienced karting, and to compete before an incredible home crowd." Both Sainz and his teammate, Alex Albon, will sport custom-designed race suits that complement the distinctive one-off livery. The Spanish Grand Prix is scheduled to commence on Sunday, September 13.
The unveiling of Williams Racing's retro-inspired livery at the Spanish Grand Prix not only celebrates a rich history but also symbolizes a forward-looking ambition. It reminds us that embracing heritage can be a powerful catalyst for future innovation and success. For both the team and the fans, this event transcends a mere race; it's a profound connection between past glories and future aspirations, reinforcing the timeless spirit of competitive racing.
