Volkswagen's New Affordable Electric SUV: The ID. Cross Debuts with Impressive Range and Features

Volkswagen has officially introduced its latest electric vehicle, the ID. Cross, an affordable SUV poised to make a significant impact on the EV market. With a starting price point around $32,000, this new model signals Volkswagen's commitment to expanding its electric lineup with more budget-friendly options, building on the success of previous releases like the ID. Polo.
This new compact electric SUV is designed to deliver a blend of performance and practicality, offering drivers flexibility with two battery options: a 37 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack and a 52 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) pack. The vehicle boasts an impressive WLTP range of up to 427 kilometers (approximately 265 miles), ensuring ample travel distance for daily commutes and longer journeys. Additionally, the ID. Cross supports fast charging capabilities, allowing the smaller battery to reach 80% charge in about 23 minutes and the larger one in around 24 minutes, making it highly convenient for active lifestyles. Its robust towing capacity of up to 3,000 lbs further enhances its utility, catering to diverse needs from recreational activities to light hauling.
Inside, the ID. Cross showcases a modern and user-friendly cabin with Volkswagen’s innovative digital cockpit design. Key interior features include a 10.25-inch "Digital Cockpit Pro" instrument display and a large 12.9-inch central infotainment screen, ensuring all essential information and entertainment are easily accessible. A unique retro display option allows the instrument panel to adopt a classic Golf 1 aesthetic, blending nostalgia with cutting-edge technology. Furthermore, the vehicle comes standard with advanced safety and convenience features, including an updated Connected Travel Assist ADAS system, which now responds to traffic lights—a first for its segment. Optional upgrades like a premium Harmon Kardon sound system and electrically adjustable front seats with pneumatic massage functions elevate the driving experience, while the optimized interior space, thanks to its flat battery design, offers more storage than its predecessor.
The debut of the ID. Cross underscores Volkswagen's strategic vision for an electrified future, demonstrating that sustainable mobility can be both advanced and affordable. By combining impressive range, efficient charging, innovative technology, and practical design, the ID. Cross is set to empower a broader audience to embrace electric vehicles, contributing positively to environmental stewardship and technological progress.
