UK HGV Workshops Set for Standardized Rating System

A new initiative aims to revolutionize the way heavy goods vehicle (HGV) workshops are evaluated in the United Kingdom. The Mechanic Performance Rating Scheme (MPRS) has emerged after an extensive 18-month trial, utilizing Daimler Truck workshops as a reference point for its competency and facility scoring criteria. This collaborative effort brings together prominent industry organizations such as Logistics UK, RHA, CPT, IRTE, SMMT, BVRLA, and NFDA. Their shared vision is to enhance commercial vehicle maintenance standards, minimize MOT failures, and bolster safety, reliability, and compliance across the sector.
The MPRS introduces a tiered evaluation framework comprising Entry, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum levels. This system empowers commercial vehicle operators by providing them with clearer information when selecting where to service their fleets. Participating workshops gain the opportunity to showcase their dedication to excellence, thereby strengthening their reputations and gaining a competitive edge. Moreover, this scheme incentivizes investment in staff training and infrastructure upgrades, which can lead to improved ratings over time. Daimler Truck UK has committed to ensuring all dealers within its network achieve MPRS certification by the close of 2025.
Industry leaders view the MPRS as a crucial step toward elevating post-sales service standards. Amy Carter, head of production at Daimler Truck UK, expressed enthusiasm about the program's potential impact on the commercial vehicle market. She emphasized that consistent nationwide rating systems have long been overdue, and the MPRS provides an independent benchmark that reassures customers of top-tier service quality. As awareness grows, it is anticipated that both customers and dealers will increasingly prioritize these ratings, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the industry.
