U.S. Education Faces Significant Challenges Post-Pandemic
The latest results from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) reveal a troubling trend in American education. While additional funding for public education is often proposed as a solution, the evidence suggests that the issue lies not in the amount spent but in how funds are allocated. For instance, New York State invests over $36,000 per student annually, more than any other state, yet its students perform only moderately on national exams. The State Education Department's decision to stop reporting chronic absenteeism further undermines efforts to address the crisis effectively.
