Toyota Recalls Over 100,000 Land Cruiser Hybrids for Fuel Leak Risk

Toyota is undertaking a significant recall campaign, affecting over 100,000 Land Cruiser Hybrid SUVs from the 2024 to 2026 model years. This action addresses a critical safety concern involving a fuel-tube connection that could become loose near the vehicle's tank. Such a defect presents a serious fire risk if fuel leaks and comes into contact with an ignition source. This proactive measure by Toyota aims to prevent potential incidents and ensure the safety of its customers.
The recall specifically targets hybrid versions of the J250-generation Land Cruiser. Toyota's investigation identified 23 field reports and 64 warranty claims related to this problem, prompting the company to initiate the recall. Owners of affected vehicles will receive notification and instructions to bring their SUVs to a dealership for a free inspection and repair. The repair involves either installing a supplementary clamp on the fuel-tube connection or, if necessary, replacing the entire resin fuel tube.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) filing 26V673, approximately 105,794 Land Cruiser Hybrids are involved in this recall. These vehicles were manufactured between November 29, 2023, and October 1, 2026. While the total number of recalled vehicles is substantial, Toyota estimates that only about one percent of these vehicles actually harbor the defect.
This recall follows a series of other safety actions by Toyota in recent years, including recalls for the RAV4 plug-in hybrid and the Tundra engine. These previous recalls addressed various issues, from manufacturing debris to other potential safety hazards. Toyota emphasizes that all repairs related to this fuel-leak recall will be covered under federal recall law, regardless of the vehicle's warranty status, ensuring that all affected owners can have their vehicles made safe without incurring any costs.
Owners can expect to receive official notification letters between November 29 and December 13, 2026, which will include internal recall codes 26TB23 and 26TA23. However, for those eager to check sooner, vehicle owners can use their 17-character VIN through NHTSA's online recall search tool. This tool provides immediate access to information regarding any open recalls on their vehicle, offering peace of mind or prompt action.
Should any owner detect a fuel odor, observe fuel dripping near the rear of their SUV, or notice an unusual increase in fuel consumption, they are strongly advised to park their vehicle outdoors, away from any structures, and refrain from driving it until it has been inspected. Such precautions are crucial to mitigating the risk of fire until the necessary repairs can be performed by a certified Toyota dealership.
