Tesla recently unveiled the latest addition to its Model Y lineup: the Model Y Standard. This new trim level is priced at $41,630, including destination charges, positioning it as a significantly more affordable option, approximately $5,000 less than its predecessor's base model.
To achieve this reduced cost, Tesla has strategically streamlined certain features. The panoramic glass roof, a signature element in higher trims, has been replaced with a more conventional metal roof. Interior luxuries like leather seats have given way to fabric upholstery, and the lighting system has been simplified. Comfort features have also seen adjustments; the steering wheel now requires manual adjustment, front seats lack ventilation, and heated rear seats are no longer standard. The Model Y Standard is equipped with 18-inch wheels as standard, with an option to upgrade to 19-inch wheels for an additional $1,500. Color choices are limited to three core options: Stealth Grey (included), Pearl White (+$1,000), and Diamond Black (+$1,500). For those looking to further enhance their vehicle, optional upgrades include a tow hitch, capable of towing up to 3,500 pounds, for $1,000, and the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) package at $8,000. Performance-wise, the Model Y Standard features a single rear-mounted electric motor and a 69.5-kilowatt-hour battery, delivering 300 horsepower. It boasts an estimated range of 321 miles on a single charge and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds. While this is a slight reduction in range and speed compared to the Model Y Long Range, which offers 357 miles and a 0-60 mph time of 5.7 seconds, the difference is not drastically significant for everyday driving. Even with all available upgrades, the Model Y Standard's price peaks at $53,630, making it a considerably more economical choice than the Model Y Performance, which begins at nearly $60,000.
