Empowering Women in the Car Community: Past Pleasures Car Club's Inspiring Ladies Night
In a celebration of female empowerment and community, the Past Pleasures Car Club (PPCC) hosted its annual Ladies Night event on October 4th. This unique car show allowed the women of the club to take the lead, selecting the winning vehicles and showcasing their passion for classic automobiles.

Driving Change: Celebrating Women's Contributions in the Car Community

Putting Women in the Driver's Seat

The PPCC's Ladies Night was a testament to the club's commitment to inclusivity and gender equality. "All the winners are selected by the ladies," proudly stated PPCC President David Avila, highlighting the event's focus on empowering female members. The trophies awarded had a lighthearted, humorous theme, with categories like "Handsome Hunk," "Fastest Looking Sitting Still," and "Betty Boop's Ride," adding a playful touch to the proceedings.

Raising Awareness and Supporting Survivors

In addition to the car show festivities, the event also served as a platform to raise awareness and show support for breast cancer survivors and all those affected by the disease. "This is Ladies Night, and because this is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we're passing out wristbands to show support, not only for breast cancer survivors, but all cancer survivors," Avila explained. For the PPCC President, this cause was deeply personal, as his late mother had been a breast cancer survivor, and his two sisters were predisposed to the disease. "For me, awareness is very important and finding a cure is very important," he added, underscoring the event's dual purpose of celebrating women and supporting a vital health initiative.

Showcasing Automotive Passion and Skill

The car show featured a diverse array of classic vehicles, each with its own unique story. One standout was a 1940 Ford Coupe owned by attendee Barbara Whittington, who proudly displayed her teal blue car with yellow flames. "I've had this car four years," she shared, adding that she owns three classic cars, while her husband Larry Whittington owns four. Whittington's passion for her vehicle was evident as she recounted her recent racing experience at the Irwindale Speedway, where she had competed in the Cal Rods Car Show. "I raced it at the Irwindale Speedway two weeks ago at the Cal Rods Car Show," she said, boasting about her car's Boss 302 engine. "You gotta step on it. I did a lot of practicing." Whittington's dedication and skill behind the wheel were a testament to the women's active involvement in the car community.

A Vibrant Car Club Community

The Past Pleasures Car Club's Ladies Night was not just a one-off event, but rather a reflection of the club's broader commitment to fostering a vibrant community of car enthusiasts. Whittington revealed that she and her husband are members of the Cal Rods Club and attend eight to ten car shows per month, including three Past Pleasures Car Club events this year alone. This level of engagement and dedication to the car community underscores the passion and camaraderie that drives the PPCC and its members.

Giving Back: The Upcoming Toy Drive

The Past Pleasures Car Club's commitment to its community extends beyond the car show itself. The club's next major event, scheduled for November 1st, will be a toy drive for the holiday season, further demonstrating the group's dedication to making a positive impact in the lives of others. This upcoming event promises to be the club's biggest of the year, solidifying its role as a hub for car enthusiasts and community-minded individuals alike.
