A vehicle collision occurred near a railroad crossing in Wabaunsee County on Monday morning, resulting in one person being injured. The incident took place just before 11:30 a.m., involving a GMC Rockport and a railroad maintenance vehicle. The driver of the car was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while no other individuals were harmed in this event.
The accident unfolded on Buffalo Mound Road, located south of Old Stone Church Road. According to reports from local authorities, the driver of the GMC Rockport did not stop at the designated railroad crossing. Consequently, an eastbound railway maintenance vehicle collided with the truck. Following the impact, the vehicle caught fire, adding urgency to the emergency response.
Courtney L. Waddell, a resident of Auburn, was identified as the driver of the Rockport. Despite the severity of the situation, Waddell had been wearing a seatbelt, which likely contributed to reducing the extent of injuries sustained. Emergency medical services promptly arrived on the scene and transported Waddell to Stormont Vail Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
