Porsche Penske Unveils Retro Liveries for Road America Endurance Race

Porsche Penske Motorsport has announced that its cars will compete in the upcoming IMSA SportsCar Championship event at Road America featuring special heritage-inspired paint schemes. This exciting reveal comes as the team prepares for one of the season's most anticipated races, where two historic designs will take to the track.
The #6 Porsche 963 LMDh, piloted by Kevin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor, will showcase the striking blue and yellow Sunoco livery, a design that became legendary with the Porsche 917/30 during the 1970s. Concurrently, Julien Andlauer and Felipe Nasr, driving the #7 Porsche 963, will revive the vibrant yellow color scheme synonymous with the Porsche RS Spyder LMP2. This marks the fourth instance this season where Porsche Penske has adorned its LMDh prototypes with unique liveries, previously doing so at Sebring, Long Beach, and Laguna Seca. The year 2026 holds special significance, commemorating Porsche's 75th anniversary in motorsport and Team Penske's 60th year since its inception. To honor these milestones, and with the Road America event extended to a six-hour format, the team strategically chose this race to celebrate two of the most triumphant vehicles in their collaborative history.
Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President of Porsche Motorsport, reflected on the historical ties to Road America, noting the Porsche 917/30's dominant performance in 1973, when Mark Donohue set a record-breaking lap. He also recalled the RS Spyder's successful return to prototype racing in 2006, highlighting its overall victory at the 2008 Sebring 12 Hours against more powerful LMP1 competitors. Roger Penske, founder of Penske Corporation, emphasized the deep-rooted partnership between Team Penske and Porsche, describing it as one of racing's most enduring and successful relationships. These special liveries serve as a tribute not only to championship-winning eras and legendary cars but also to the individuals whose contributions forged their collective success. The Porsche 917/30's dominance in the Can-Am Series and the RS Spyder's remarkable achievements in LMP2 racing, including multiple American Le Mans Series titles and Le Mans class victories, underscore the rich legacy being celebrated.
This initiative by Porsche Penske not only honors their illustrious past but also serves as an inspiration, reminding us that success is often built upon a foundation of rich history, collaborative spirit, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. It demonstrates how embracing heritage can ignite passion and drive innovation, propelling future achievements in the dynamic world of motorsport.
