Octopus Energy Launches All-in-One EV Charging App in North America

Octopus Energy has launched a new initiative to simplify the public charging experience for electric vehicle users. Their new application, named Octopus Charge, seeks to alleviate the common frustration of needing numerous apps to access different charging networks.
The Octopus Charge app, available for free on both iOS and Android platforms, provides users with access to over 211,000 EV charging points across North America. This comprehensive tool allows drivers to locate, activate, and complete payment for charging sessions within a single interface. The platform has partnered with major charging providers, including ChargePoint, EVgo, Blink, and Shell Recharge, among others, with a current roster of 24 participating networks. Users can refine their search for charging stations by criteria such as location, charging speed, connector type, and network affiliation. Furthermore, the app offers real-time availability updates, compatibility details, pricing information, and an integrated route planner specifically designed for electric vehicles.
Nick Chaset, CEO of Octopus Energy US, emphasized that the goal is to make driving electric as straightforward as possible, ensuring that drivers do not need to manage multiple applications and accounts for charging. The company states that joining the service is free, and it passes through the charging networks' prices directly, without any additional markup on the per-kilowatt-hour cost. This North American offering follows the success of Octopus Electroverse, its European counterpart, which has provided access to over 1 million public charging points across more than 40 countries since its launch in 2020, positioning Octopus Charge as a significant step towards a more integrated EV charging ecosystem.
This development signifies a positive move towards enhancing the convenience and accessibility of electric vehicle infrastructure. By streamlining the charging process, Octopus Energy is actively contributing to reducing barriers for EV adoption, promoting a more sustainable and user-friendly future for electric transportation.
