MotoGP 2027 Calendar Expands with New Venues and Global Reach

The 2027 MotoGP championship calendar has been officially revealed, showcasing an ambitious expansion to 22 rounds spread across 19 different nations. This upcoming season marks a significant step in the series' global reach, introducing fresh venues and strategic scheduling adjustments to enhance its international appeal.
Among the most anticipated changes, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Adelaide, Australia, will host races for the first time, taking the place of Hungary's Balaton Park and relocating the Australian Grand Prix from its long-standing home at Phillip Island. This geographical shift aims to broaden MotoGP's footprint and tap into new markets, with Liberty Media expressing hopes that the semi-urban Adelaide circuit will attract interest from other major cities worldwide for future events.
The season is set to commence on March 7th at the Buriram circuit in Thailand, a month after the final pre-season tests at the same venue. The Qatar Grand Prix will then assume the second spot on the calendar, a notable change given past scheduling complexities, including the postponement of a 2026 event due to regional conflicts. Following these initial rounds, the championship will journey to the Americas, featuring a race in Brazil before returning to Buenos Aires for its debut on April 11th at the Autódromo Oscar y Juan Gálvez, almost three decades since its last appearance in the championship.
The European leg of the season will kick off in Austin, USA, followed by the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez on May 9th, a week later than its usual slot. A total of 12 European events will unfold between mid-May and early October, concluding with Portimao. The championship will then transition to Asia, featuring a unique triple-header with races in Japan (October 17th), Malaysia (October 24th), and Indonesia (October 31st), providing a challenging and intense sequence for teams and riders before moving to Oceania. The season will culminate in Valencia at the end of November, as announced earlier in the week, bringing the global motorcycle racing spectacle to a close.
The upcoming 2027 MotoGP season is poised to be an unprecedented global spectacle, with its expanded 22-round calendar introducing new and exciting venues like Buenos Aires and Adelaide. This strategic geographical diversification, along with key scheduling shifts such as Qatar's early placement and the introduction of multiple double and triple-headers, underscores a clear intent to elevate the championship's international presence and fan engagement. The move to Adelaide's semi-urban circuit reflects a forward-thinking approach to attract broader urban audiences, promising a refreshed and dynamic experience for the global motorcycle racing community.
