Mercedes-Benz Unveils All-New Electric C-Class: A Smooth and Spacious Sedan
Mercedes-Benz has officially revealed its first all-electric C-Class, marking a significant evolution in its vehicle lineup. This new sedan, which forgoes the previous 'EQ' branding, aims to blend the luxurious comfort of the S-Class with advanced electric vehicle technology. With an impressive 473-mile WLTP range and a 482 horsepower dual-motor system, the C-Class Electric promises both performance and efficiency, setting a new standard for the brand's compact executive offerings.
The exterior design of the electric C-Class represents a fresh direction, moving away from the more rounded aesthetic of earlier EQ models. It features a distinctive grille inspired by classic Mercedes-Benz vehicles like the W111 and W108, enhanced by modern touches such as optional illuminated pixels. The vehicle's lighting elements, including star motifs in the headlights and taillights, and 162 illuminated stars in the panoramic glass roof, underscore its luxurious identity. This design approach positions the C-Class Electric as a sleeker, more aerodynamic counterpart to its SUV sibling, the electric GLC, with a drag coefficient of just 0.22.
Inside, the cabin prioritizes spaciousness and cutting-edge technology. Riding on a dedicated EV platform, the electric C-Class offers a wheelbase extended by 3.8 inches compared to its gasoline-powered predecessor, significantly enhancing legroom for all occupants. The interior is dominated by an expansive 39.1-inch continuous display that spans nearly the entire dashboard, offering a sophisticated digital experience. While the top-tier models feature the 'Hyperscreen' with multiple integrated touchscreens, base versions still provide a substantial digital instrument cluster and central infotainment system, with a unique 'digitally animated trim panel' on the passenger side.
Practicality is also a key feature of the new C-Class Electric. The absence of a combustion engine under the hood creates space for a substantial front trunk with 3.5 cubic feet of storage. The initial launch will feature the C400 4Matic variant, equipped with dual motors generating 482 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, powered by a 94.5 kWh lithium-ion battery. Mercedes-Benz has emphasized the driving experience, describing the electric C-Class as the 'sportiest C-Class ever.' At higher speeds, the rear wheels align with the front wheels to improve stability. Scheduled to arrive at U.S. dealerships in the first half of 2027, the C400 4Matic sedan will be followed by other rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive variants. Mercedes-Benz also plans to introduce a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive version with an even greater range, projected to reach approximately 497 miles on a full charge.
