Mazda's EZ-60 Electric SUV Debuts in China, Global Release Expected Next Year

Mazda has officially launched its innovative EZ-60 electric SUV in the Chinese market, marking a significant step in the brand's electrification strategy. This vehicle, proudly dubbed a 'dream car' by Mazda, is now accessible in China with an attractive starting price below $17,000. Following its initial rollout, Mazda plans to introduce the EZ-60 to international markets, including Europe and North America, starting next year. This move underscores the company's commitment to expanding its electric vehicle footprint globally.
The EZ-60 has already made a substantial impact, demonstrating considerable market appeal. After its initial showcase at the Shanghai Auto Show, the collaboration between Mazda and Changan Mazda saw an impressive surge in pre-orders, accumulating over 10,000 reservations within the first 24 hours and exceeding 40,000 orders shortly thereafter. This rapid adoption positions the EZ-60 as a noteworthy contender in the burgeoning electric SUV segment. The model is available in six distinct variants, encompassing both pure electric and extended-range configurations, with pricing designed to appeal to a broad consumer base. Its dimensions are comparable to those of the Tesla Model Y, featuring a contemporary 'Soul of Motion' design language, an updated Mazda emblem, modern headlights, and a distinctive full-width LED light bar. The interior is equally impressive, integrating several pioneering technologies such as a 26.45-inch floating infotainment display and various head-up display options, including a 50-inch AR HUD as standard and an optional 100-inch naked-eye 3D HUD.
Performance-wise, the all-electric EZ-60 is equipped with a 77.94 kWh LFP battery, providing an estimated CLTC range of 600 km. The extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants combine a smaller 31.73 kWh LFP battery with a 1.5L gasoline engine, offering an electric range of approximately 200 km and a combined range exceeding 1,000 km. As Mazda's second electric vehicle to debut in China, following the EZ-6 electric sedan, the EZ-60 is poised to be rebranded as the Mazda CX-6e for its international release. This strategic introduction of advanced electric vehicles highlights Mazda's dedication to innovation and sustainability, paving the way for a more electrified future in the automotive industry.
