Marco Bezzecchi Reflects on Aragon MotoGP Sprint Outcome
Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi expressed uncertainty about securing victory in the Aragon Grand Prix sprint had he maintained his initial lead, acknowledging the superior speed of the Marquez siblings.
After a dominant performance in practice and qualifying, where he set a new track record, Bezzecchi commenced the abbreviated race from pole position at MotorLand Aragon. Despite a flawless start, he couldn't withstand Marc Marquez's challenge, who overtook him at Turn 1. Alex Marquez also capitalized on the situation, maneuvering past Bezzecchi at Turn 2 by taking a tighter racing line.
Despite utilizing the softer, less durable rear tire, Bezzecchi found himself unable to compete with the faster Ducati bikes of the Marquez brothers, eventually settling for a third-place finish. While he admitted that holding the leading position might have improved his chances for a first sprint win of 2026, he candidly stated that his overall pace simply wasn't on par with the Ducatis, especially with his injured left knee. Bezzecchi remains confident in his tire strategy, believing the soft compound was the correct choice for him, despite the majority of the field opting for the more robust medium tires.
Considering Aprilia's historical challenges at Aragon, a circuit where Marquez boasts an impressive seven victories across his tenures with Honda and Ducati, Bezzecchi viewed his third-place finish as a positive outcome, allowing him to gain ground on Jorge Martin in the championship standings. He found enjoyment in the challenging race and expressed satisfaction with his day's balance, hoping to further close the gap to the Marquez brothers in upcoming events.
