Lucid Air Sedans Recalled Due to Fire Risk from Overheating Lights

A widespread recall has been announced for numerous Lucid Air luxury electric sedans, affecting vehicles produced between 2022 and 2026. This action stems from a critical design flaw in the vehicle's exterior lighting system, specifically relating to the low-voltage circuits. These circuits, powered by an eFuse, have been identified as lacking adequate overcurrent protection, which can result in excessive amperage flow and subsequent overheating. This overheating poses a substantial risk, potentially leading to smoke emission or even vehicle fires, as well as compromising the functionality of the headlights and taillights. Lucid has acknowledged three incidents involving fires and four reports of smoke, believed to be directly related to this electrical malfunction, alongside 33 warranty claims for damaged brake light wiring.
Addressing this safety concern, Lucid has already rolled out an over-the-air software update designed to resolve the issue. The updated software, version 2.10.0 or later, incorporates a reduced eFuse amperage and deactivates a feature that previously allowed faulty circuits to re-energize during the same key cycle. For vehicle owners who have not yet installed this crucial update, Lucid strongly advises parking their cars outdoors and at a safe distance from other vehicles and structures to minimize potential hazards. The company plans to directly notify all affected customers by October 16th, providing detailed instructions for the software installation and offering assistance for those requiring support.
This proactive measure by Lucid underscores the importance of vehicle safety and prompt response to potential defects. While recalls can be concerning for owners, the swift deployment of a software-based solution demonstrates a commitment to resolving issues efficiently. It highlights how modern automotive technology, particularly in electric vehicles, allows for remote fixes, reducing inconvenience for consumers while enhancing overall safety standards. This incident serves as a reminder for all vehicle owners to heed recall notices and ensure their vehicles are equipped with the latest safety updates.
