Kia's latest offering, the PV7 electric van, is generating significant buzz with its impressive size and extended driving range. Designed to provide ample space and versatility, this vehicle is expected to make a substantial impact in the light commercial vehicle (LCV) sector, following in the footsteps of its predecessor, the PV5.
Kia Unveils PV7: A New Era for Electric Vans
On September 14, 2026, Kia made a notable announcement at IAA Transportation in Hanover, Germany, introducing its newest all-electric van, the PV7. This vehicle, an expansion of their Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) initiative, marks Kia's strategic move to capture a larger segment of the LCV market. Building on the robust E-GMP.S platform, shared with the PV5, the PV7 features a flat floor design that enables a remarkably flexible and spacious interior. Kia has ambitious plans to roll out 23 different PV7 models in the coming years, including specialized Passenger and Cargo versions, demonstrating a clear commitment to diverse market demands.
The PV7 will be powered by two nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) battery options: 71.5 kWh and 96.2 kWh. The Long Range Cargo variant stands out with an estimated all-electric range of over 460 km (285 miles) under the WLTP cycle. While front-wheel drive is standard, Kia intends to offer an all-wheel drive option in the future, enhancing its appeal. The electric powertrain delivers up to 268 horsepower (200 kW) and 309 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque, providing robust performance. Thanks to its 800V architecture, the PV7 supports rapid charging, reaching 10% to 80% capacity in approximately 25 minutes with a 350 kW DC fast charger.
Inside, the PV7 continues the high-tech trend seen in the PV5, incorporating Hyundai's Pleos Connect infotainment system, featuring large 12.9-inch and 14.6-inch displays. This system, based on Android Automotive OS, offers a user-friendly interface reminiscent of a smartphone, complete with customizable screens and applications. A notable addition is Gleo AI, an intelligent in-car assistant capable of answering queries, managing navigation, and controlling various vehicle functions.
In terms of dimensions, the PV7 Passenger and Cargo models measure 5,350 mm (210 inches) in length, 1,995 mm in width, and 1,990 mm in height, with a substantial 3,500 mm wheelbase. These measurements make it considerably larger than the PV5 Passenger and even surpass the long-wheelbase Volkswagen ID. Buzz. The Cargo version is available in 2- and 3-seat configurations, offering up to 6.1 cubic meters of storage, which can expand to 8 cubic meters in the High Roof variant. It boasts a maximum payload capacity of up to 1,165 kg (2,568 lbs) for the Long version and 1,200 kg (2,645 lbs) for the compact model, featuring a low loading height of 550 mm and specialized heavy-loading driving modes. Buyers can also choose between full-open twin-swing tailgate doors or a lift-up tailgate. The PV7 Passenger model is designed for shuttling, rentals, and family use, accommodating up to nine passengers globally, and up to eleven in Korea. It features Long-Rail Easy Remove Seats for flexible interior layouts. The initial launch of the PV7 Passenger and Cargo models is scheduled for the latter half of 2027 in Korea and Europe, with subsequent introductions to other markets and a wider array of derivatives and conversions.
