Kia EV2: Alpine Testing Reveals Closer Look at Compact Electric SUV

Kia's forthcoming EV2 is making waves as it prepares to enter the electric vehicle market, despite its relatively small stature. The manufacturer has indicated that this vehicle will offer a surprisingly spacious and adaptable interior, featuring smart storage solutions and versatile seating configurations. Recent observations of a prototype undergoing rigorous evaluation in the challenging Alpine environment have provided the most detailed insights into the EV2's design and features to date, suggesting it will be a significant contender in the compact electric SUV category.
The Concept EV2 was first introduced by Kia during their 2025 EV Day event in April, providing a glimpse into the brand's future entry-level electric SUV. Despite its smaller physical footprint, Kia aims for the EV2 to revolutionize urban electric transportation, integrating novel features. While precise dimensions have not been officially released, it's anticipated to be approximately 4,000 mm (157 inches) in length, positioning it below the EV3 model, which measures 4,300 mm (169.3 inches). From a side perspective, the EV2 exhibits a notably elevated stance, drawing parallels with the larger EV9 in Kia's lineup. During an exclusive event at Milan Design Week, Kia also offered an initial look at the vehicle's interior.
The interior design of the EV2 is reportedly inspired by the concept of 'a picnic in the city,' implying a desire to offer a tranquil escape from the urban hustle. This vision is supported by a flat-floor layout and highly adaptable seating arrangements, literally allowing for a picnic-like experience within the vehicle. While the EV2 has been spotted testing publicly on several occasions, a new video, released by CarSpyMedia, provides the most comprehensive exterior view of Kia's upcoming electric SUV. This footage showcases an EV2 prototype navigating the Alps, adorned with European license plates and a 'Testfahrt' (German for 'Test Car') sticker on its rear.
As the prototype traverses the landscape, the video offers a thorough examination of its design from various perspectives. Consistent with earlier observations, the front fascia features vertically stacked headlights paired with Kia's distinctive Star Map lighting signature. The rear lighting elements also appear to mirror those seen on the concept version. Inside the cabin, the EV2 is slated to incorporate Kia's next-generation ccNC (connected car Navigation Cockpit) infotainment system. This advanced setup includes dual 12.3-inch instrument and infotainment displays, integrated within a sleek, curved panoramic unit. Depending on the trim level, an additional 5.3-inch screen for climate control may also be included.
A crossover coupe-style variant was recently observed on a car transporter in Korea, hinting at a potential new addition to the EV2 family with a design language reminiscent of the Genesis GV60. Furthermore, Kia's CEO, Ho Sung Song, recently confirmed to Autocar that an even more compact and affordable electric vehicle is under development, positioned below the EV2. This forthcoming model, anticipated to be priced under €25,000 (approximately $30,000), is currently undergoing research and development. With the EV4 and EV5 set for release this year, followed by the EV2 in 2026, and new generations of the EV6 and EV9 also on the horizon, the brand is clearly committed to an expansive electric future.
The Kia EV2 is scheduled for its market debut in Europe and other international regions in 2026. However, it is not anticipated to be introduced to the United States market.
