Josh Berry Joins Legacy Motor Club for 2027 NASCAR Cup Season

Berry's Big Move: A New Era with Legacy Motor Club
Official Announcement: Berry Takes the Wheel of No. 42 Toyota
Legacy Motor Club has officially confirmed Josh Berry as the new driver for their No. 42 Toyota for the upcoming 2027 NASCAR Cup Series season. He will be joining Erik Jones, who drives the No. 43, and Riley Herbst, in the No. 84, as part of an expanded roster. The team's decision to bring in Berry comes after their recent announcement to part ways with current driver John Hunter Nemechek, making room for this exciting new lineup.
Berry's Enthusiasm for the Future with Legacy Motor Club
Expressing his excitement about the new opportunity, Josh Berry stated, “Legacy Motor Club clearly possesses a compelling vision for their future, and I am eager to contribute to that journey. I have observed this team closely and am confident in their capabilities. The foundation laid by Jimmie Johnson—encompassing the personnel, culture, and strategic direction—is precisely the kind of environment where I aspire to compete and thrive.”
A Look Back at Berry's Recent Performance and Career Highlights
Berry's transition to Legacy Motor Club follows his departure from Wood Brothers Racing, where he achieved remarkable success. Despite the news of his impending exit, Berry maintained an impressive performance streak, securing six consecutive top-ten finishes – a feat not seen from a Wood Brothers driver since 1976. This consistent performance propelled him eight positions higher in the standings. His career also boasts a Cup Series victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the 2025 season, five wins in the NASCAR O'Reilly Series, and the 2017 CARS Late Model Stock Tour championship. Berry made his Cup debut in 2021 with Spire Motorsports and later served as a fill-in driver for Hendrick Motorsports in 2023. He also competed in two races for Legacy Motor Club in 2023, finishing 34th at Michigan and 22nd at Daytona in the very same No. 42 car he is set to command.
Legacy Motor Club's Expansion and Jimmie Johnson's Vision
The 2027 Daytona 500 will see Legacy Motor Club field a formidable four-car lineup, with team co-owner and seven-time Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson taking the wheel of the No. 48 for his final NASCAR start. Johnson voiced his confidence in Berry's capabilities, remarking, “Josh is a proven competitor whose achievements are a testament to his dedication and hard work. What truly distinguishes Josh is his ability to grasp the broader strategic context from behind the wheel—his experience, insight, and wisdom are invaluable. His career has been built on these strengths, and I am certain he will make a significant impact here. We are thrilled to welcome him to Legacy.”
