Jensen International Automotive Unveils Modern Interceptor GTX










Jensen International Automotive has introduced the Interceptor GTX, a modern iteration of the classic Interceptor grand tourer. This high-performance vehicle features a supercharged 6.8-liter V-8 engine, delivering 960 horsepower to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential transaxle. While the GTX is currently track-only, Jensen plans to release road-legal GT and GTR models in the future, expanding the Interceptor line's accessibility to a broader audience.
Under the hood, the Interceptor GTX boasts a re-engineered V-8 engine derived from a General Motors LT-series unit. Late Model Engines, based in Texas, significantly modified the engine, retaining less than 20 percent of the original GM components. The 6.8-liter engine can reach 7000 rpm and is paired with a 2.7-liter Roots-type supercharger, featuring electronic boost control for rapid throttle response and linear power delivery. This highly customized powertrain is capable of producing up to 1200 horsepower and over 1000 pound-feet of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear transaxle through a carbon-fiber driveshaft encased in a steel torque tube. The Samsonas Motorsport-sourced six-speed sequential transmission utilizes straight-cut dog gears, allowing drivers to shift using either steering-column-mounted paddles or a lever on the transmission tunnel. Future road-going Interceptors may offer H-pattern manual or automatic gearbox options. The GTX also incorporates steel brake rotors with in-cabin adjustable brake balance, an all-aluminum chassis for a rigid yet lightweight structure, and an aluminum unequal-length control-arm suspension with three-way manually adjustable dampers. It rides on Vossen 20-inch forged-aluminum wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.
The Interceptor GTX's design pays homage to the original Interceptor with dramatic proportions, including a long hood and a fastback roofline, but with a modern, aggressive twist. Collaborating with Avant Design, known for their work on the electric Longbow sports car and the LEVC TX taxi, Jensen International crafted the bodywork from aluminum, characterized by sharp, assertive lines. The front end features a recessed thin band for the headlights and vertical, slanted LEDs flanking the trapezoidal intake. A black-painted roof and a large glass panel at the rear echo the original Interceptor's distinctive glass dome. Aerodynamic elements are prominent, including a large front splitter, carbon-fiber plane within the intake, side skirts with fins, a massive rear diffuser, and an adjustable rear wing capable of generating over 771 pounds of downforce. The interior is race-inspired, with an FIA-approved roll cage, Tillett carbon-fiber seats, six-point harnesses, and a fire-extinguisher system. Despite its minimalist approach, the cabin includes Alcantara-wrapped padding with orange stitching for comfort, and a digital display behind the steering wheel replaces a central screen.
The Interceptor GTX is described as an "enhanced prototype" and serves as the foundation for future street-legal Interceptor models. Jensen International plans to introduce an Interceptor GTR, a road-going version of the GTX, and a more luxurious Interceptor GT. Images of these upcoming models reveal a GT variant with cleaner bodywork and fewer aerodynamic appendages, while the GTR model maintains a sportier aesthetic with a smaller wing and front splitter. The GTX is currently undergoing dynamic testing and evaluation, with Jensen aiming to customize vehicle specifications for individual customers. Although a timeline and pricing are yet to be announced, the company previously indicated that the GTX would be available in "ultra-limited numbers" in the U.K. This revival of a classic grand tourer promises a thrilling driving experience, blending heritage with cutting-edge engineering and design.
