A group of Japanese manufacturers, led by the racing car constructor Dome, has put forward a proposal to build the upcoming Super Formula vehicle. Following an unsuccessful attempt to enter Formula 1 almost two decades ago, Dome resumed single-seater production in 2015, developing the F110 for Japan's domestic F4 series and, more recently, the F111/3 car under Formula Regional specifications. While Dome was the principal designer, numerous other firms, including Toyota's TGR-D, Team Mugen's parent company M-TEC, Toda Racing, and Toray Carbon Magic, which manufactures the current GT500 chassis for Super GT, contributed to various aspects of the project. The JNFP-1 was first showcased publicly in Yokohama in May and later at the fourth round of the season in Fuji. Simulator trials with former Super Formula driver Kazuya Oshima have commenced, and an on-track debut is anticipated in the coming months.

JRP president Yoshihisa Ueno expressed admiration for the JNFP-1 at Fuji, though he emphasized that its adoption by the series is "nothing decided." He further noted that the machine's value extends beyond its potential adoption, highlighting the collaboration of over 40 Japanese constructors in building the prototype as a significant step toward elevating Japan's motorsport sector. Ueno clarified that selecting the next-generation car is a complex process, requiring a grid of 30 cars, assured safety, reliable supply, and manageable costs, and is not solely determined by the promoter. Last year, Ueno indicated to Autosport that the current Dallara SF23's lifespan might be prolonged beyond 2027 as options for its successor are deliberated. The earliest the JNFP-1 could be produced in sufficient numbers to supply the entire grid is estimated to be 2029 or 2030.
