Road America, the historic circuit near Elkhart Lake, presents unique challenges compared to previous venues like Watkins Glen. Its layout includes three long, flat-out sections interwoven with numerous second and third-gear corners. Such a diverse track profile means that weight penalties, while always impactful, are particularly detrimental in fast corners and high-speed stretches. For instance, the Porsche 963 had previously received a weight reduction for Watkins Glen after struggling on street circuits, highlighting the importance of tailored BoP for different track types.
Examining the power-to-weight ratios below 230 kph (143 mph), the Aston Martin Valkyrie maintains the lead with 1.962 kg/kW, followed by the BMW M Hybrid V8 at 1.981 kg/kW, Acura ARX-06 at 2.030 kg/kW, and the Cadillac V-Series.R at 2.068 kg/kW. The new Porsche 963 is at 2.124 kg/kW, while the older specification Porsche is at 2.099 kg/kW. This marks the first time in 2026 that Cadillac's power-to-weight ratio is notably inferior to Acura's, a stark contrast to its earlier favorable standing this season. The gap between BMW and its competitors, Acura and Cadillac, has also widened significantly.

For speeds above 240 kph (149 mph), which is crucial at Road America with its extensive straight sections, the Aston Martin Valkyrie still leads with 1.962 kg/kW, followed by the Acura ARX-06 (2.010 kg/kW), BMW M Hybrid V8 (2.011 kg/kW), Cadillac V-Series.R (2.033 kg/kW), and the two Porsche models. The changes from Watkins Glen are relatively minor for most, but Cadillac again suffers the most significant setback (+0.028 kg/kW). This indicates that the increased weight is not offset by higher power output in this speed range.
Comparing high-speed ratios to Elkhart Lake 2025, BMW once again stands out with a substantial improvement (-0.048 kg/kW). Cadillac, on the other hand, finds itself at the bottom of the table with a slight increase of +0.006 kg/kW. The Porsches, despite increased power and weight, maintain a relatively unfavorable rating compared to the previous year in this segment.
Given these numbers, the BMW M Hybrid V8 appears to be the favorite for the race. However, previous races at Detroit and Watkins Glen have shown that strategy can play a crucial role, with BMW having had chances to win on both occasions. Acura, which was highly competitive at Road America in 2025 before a clever strategy call by BMW clinched the victory, also remains a strong contender.
