Gran Turismo 7 Rolls Out Significant Free Spec IV Update

Polyphony Digital is introducing a major complimentary update, dubbed Spec IV, for the popular racing simulation game, Gran Turismo 7. This substantial enhancement will be delivered in two distinct installments. With the game approaching its significant 30th anniversary in 2027, this series of updates is highly anticipated by the gaming community, promising to elevate the overall user experience.
The creators, Polyphony Digital, confirmed that the first part of the Spec IV update for Gran Turismo 7 will launch in October, followed by the second part in December 2026. This staggered release strategy ensures that players have fresh content to look forward to over several months, building excitement towards the game's monumental anniversary. The update is designed to enrich the gameplay with new vehicles and circuits, alongside various quality-of-life improvements.
Gamers on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 platforms will gain access to the Spec IV Part 1 update on October 15, 2026, free of charge. This was officially confirmed during the Gran Turismo World Series event held in Singapore, underscoring the developers' commitment to their player base. Following this, Spec IV Part 2 is slated for release around December 5-6, 2026, coinciding with the Gran Turismo World Series World Finals in Tokyo.
The initial phase of the Spec IV update in October will introduce six new vehicles to the game's roster. Among these are classic models like the 1986 Citroën 2CV Charleston, the 1994 Ferrari F355 Berlinetta, and the 1987 Honda Civic Si Group A. Modern additions include the 2023 Honda Stepwgn Spada, the Mazda RX-Vision GT3 EVO, and notably, the Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo. The Xiaomi car stands out as the first Chinese vehicle specifically designed for a Gran Turismo title, marking a significant milestone and promising unique in-game challenges for players.
In addition to new cars, the October update will also feature the Japanese Sportsland SUGO circuit. This track boasts an intricate layout with 13 corners, a total length of 3.586 kilometers, and substantial elevation changes. Furthermore, the update will introduce several new tools aimed at improving car management and player engagement, such as "Vintage" for organizing classic cars, "Car Concierge" for vehicle ordering, "Experience" for brand-specific challenges, and "Viewer" for an immersive car photography environment.
The December update, Part 2, will reintroduce the fan-favorite fictional Autumn Ring circuit, which hasn't been seen in the series for 13 years, offering both its traditional and a larger configuration. This second installment also brings new gameplay modes, including a "Family Mode," "Shuffle Race" with randomized car assignments, and an "Online Drift Trial." Enhancements to the game's AI driver, GT Sophy, and a more challenging difficulty level, "Power Pack," are also part of this upcoming release. More details about the December content are expected to be unveiled as the anniversary approaches.
Overall, these two phases of the Spec IV update will deliver a total of twelve new cars and two fresh tracks. Beyond the new content, a range of quality-of-life improvements and new gameplay features aim to make the game more accessible and enjoyable for all players. This comprehensive update package is set to refresh the Gran Turismo 7 experience, making it a fitting celebration for the franchise's three-decade legacy.
