General Motors has introduced the updated Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD, showcasing substantial enhancements for the 2027 model year. The latest iteration of these formidable heavy-duty vehicles comes equipped with an array of new features designed to boost performance and capability, including powerful engine options and advanced steering technology. At the core of these new trucks are their improved powertrains and mechanical systems. The optional 8.3-liter V-8 Duramax diesel engine, dubbed 'Mongoose,' delivers an astounding 555 horsepower and 1230 pound-feet of torque, setting a new benchmark for power in its class. Additionally, an upgraded 6.6-liter V-8 gasoline engine now produces 412 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque, benefiting from a new turbo-jet intake manifold and enhanced cooling for heavy-duty applications. Both engines are paired with a seamless Allison 10-speed automatic transmission. These advancements translate into significantly increased towing capacities, with conventional hitches supporting up to 20,000 pounds and gooseneck setups handling up to 38,000 pounds, ensuring these trucks are ready for the most demanding tasks.

A notable innovation is the shift to an electrically assisted rack-and-pinion steering system, replacing the traditional recirculating-ball setup. This change promises about 30 percent more power and substantially improved steering precision, a segment-first feature. Complementing this is an electronic brake-boost system, another pioneering addition. The braking system itself has been upgraded with larger 14.6-inch front rotors, four-piston front calipers, and enhanced rear brake hardware, all contributing to superior stopping power and greater driver confidence when transporting heavy loads.
