From Media Executive to Wellness Entrepreneur: A Journey of Health and Motherhood

Alex Taylor's professional trajectory began with rapid ascent, securing leadership roles in media by her late twenties. As President and Executive Editor-in-Chief of Clique, a prominent media house, she immersed herself in her work, often putting in long hours and responding to emails at all times. This dedication, while fostering career success, inadvertently led to neglecting her personal health, a common challenge faced by many ambitious women.
However, this intense dedication took a toll, culminating in a significant health crisis. In 2016, Taylor started experiencing various troubling symptoms, including hair loss, extreme fatigue, skin issues, brain fog, inflamed fingers, and rapid weight gain. Initially, she dismissed these signs, continuing her relentless work pace until a shingles outbreak forced her to seek medical attention. Diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease, an autoimmune condition, her doctors attributed its onset partly to the immense stress she was under. This diagnosis, coupled with difficulties in conceiving, became a pivotal moment, prompting her to reassess her priorities and lifestyle. Realizing that no career achievement was worth sacrificing her health or her dream of starting a family, Taylor made a profound decision to change her environment and embrace a healthier lifestyle, including dietary adjustments and medical treatment.
This life-altering experience catalyzed her entrepreneurial journey. After leaving her demanding media position and joining Free People Movement while pregnant, Taylor felt a strong urge to create something of her own. The fragmented and often conflicting advice she received regarding prenatal vitamins during her pregnancy, combined with her co-founder Victoria Thain Gioia's similar experiences, ignited the idea for Perelel. Despite initial fundraising challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, they bootstrapped their venture, launching five women's health supplements in September 2020. Perelel has since grown, securing investment rounds and expanding its product line to support women through perimenopause and IVF. Taylor now manages her demanding role as a mother of two and a founder by prioritizing self-care routines, including meditation, early bedtimes, reading fiction, and implementing strategies to disconnect from technology, demonstrating a conscious effort to balance ambition with personal well-being.
Alex Taylor's journey serves as an inspiring testament to the power of resilience and self-awareness. Her decision to pivot from a high-pressure media career to founding a wellness company not only addressed her personal health challenges but also created a valuable resource for other women. Her story encourages individuals to recognize the importance of prioritizing well-being, fostering a balanced lifestyle, and pursuing passions that align with one's deepest values, ultimately leading to both personal fulfillment and meaningful contributions to society.
