Ford F-150: Hands-Free Towing and Enhanced Features Unveiled for 2027 Model

Experience Effortless Towing and Enhanced Performance with the 2027 F-150
Advanced Hands-Free Towing Capability for the F-150
Ford's F-150, America's leading vehicle in sales, will feature an updated BlueCruise hands-free driver-assistance system in its 2027 model, enabling autonomous towing of boats, campers, and various trailers on designated highways. This system, while requiring drivers to remain attentive and ready to intervene, permits hands-free operation of the steering wheel and pedals. This upgrade positions Ford competitively with General Motors, which introduced similar trailering capabilities in 2022, distinguishing it from Tesla's FSD (Supervised) that deactivates when towing is detected.
Widespread Availability and Configuration Details of Hands-Free Towing
The BlueCruise system, complete with its towing functionality, will be accessible across more than 130,000 miles of certified divided highways, termed Blue Zones by Ford. This feature will be standard on all BlueCruise-equipped 2027 F-150 models, starting with the XLT trim. However, its operation is subject to various factors such as the trailer's type, dimensions, weight, loading, and overall setup, ensuring safe and optimal performance for different towing scenarios.
Extensive Testing and Continuous Innovation in Towing Technology
Ford emphasizes the rigorous testing behind its assisted towing features, having conducted thousands of miles of road tests across the US. Additionally, the automaker utilized its Dynamic Driving Simulator to evaluate approximately 800 distinct trailer configurations, ensuring comprehensive safety and reliability. The system continuously monitors critical parameters like trailer sway, tire pressure, and speed, and can restrict usage if certain conditions persist. This commitment to innovation is further exemplified by the 2023 introduction of Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, a semi-autonomous system designed to simplify trailer coupling, a feature humorously credited by a company spokesperson for 'saving many marriages.' Notably, existing BlueCruise subscribers will gain access to the towing feature without incurring additional costs.
Introducing More Accessible Raptor and Tremor Models
The 2027 F-150 lineup will also include more budget-friendly versions of its popular off-road models, the Raptor and Tremor, whose prices have historically risen with the broader truck market. The Raptor Low variant will be approximately $4,000 less than its 2026 counterpart, while the Tremor Low will see a reduction of about $5,300. These price adjustments are achieved by omitting certain luxury features. The Raptor Low will forgo a head-up display, fog lamps, a 2kW Pro Power Onboard outlet, a power passenger seat, under-seat storage, a Mobile Office package, and a 14-speaker B&O sound system, instead offering an eight-speaker system and a manual tilt steering column. The Tremor Low, based on the more basic F-150 STX, will exclude dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, off-road running boards, and a power sliding rear window, making these high-performance trucks more attainable for a wider audience.
Powertrain Upgrades and a New Carhartt Edition
The 2027 F-150 will replace its standard 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine with a more potent 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6, delivering 325 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, with a focus on enhanced torque delivery during typical driving conditions. Furthermore, the 5.0-liter V8 engine will make a return to the King Ranch and Platinum models, a first since 2023. Aesthetic updates include redesigned grilles and wheels for the XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trims. A notable addition is the new Carhartt package, which infuses workwear-inspired styling and robust interior elements into an XLT Crew Cab 4x4. Starting at $62,660 before destination charges, this package marks the latest collaboration between Ford and the enduring American brand, Carhartt. The 2027 F-150 is anticipated to be available at dealerships in the first quarter of the coming year.
