Ferrari's Luce EV Shatters Auction Records, Fetches $40 Million for Charity

Ferrari's inaugural electric vehicle, the Luce, has defied its initial critics by achieving a record-breaking sale. The first production model, dubbed "Chassis 0," recently commanded an extraordinary $40 million at RM Sotheby's Monterey Car Week auction. This figure vastly exceeded its pre-auction estimate of $1.1 million, surpassing it by almost 40 times and setting a new benchmark for new car sales.
The unique "Chassis 0" Luce was meticulously customized through Ferrari's Tailor Made program. Its exterior boasts an exclusive Madraperla Semi-Gloss finish, a color designed to display iridescent shifts from green to violet depending on light conditions. Complementing this bespoke paintwork are distinct wheels, custom brake calipers, and the iconic Ferrari emblem set against an optical white background. Inside, the cabin features Le Mans metallic leather in a Perla hue, another exclusive material from the Tailor Made collection. A medium gray, Grigio Corvara, was chosen for secondary interior elements, replacing traditional black to create a more expansive feel, and a special plaque signifies its one-of-a-kind status.
Remarkably, the substantial sum raised from this auction will not directly benefit Ferrari. Instead, all proceeds are dedicated to the Ferrari Foundation, earmarked for future educational programs. The buyer, who will take delivery of the U.S.-standards-compliant vehicle in early 2027, has invested in more than just a car; they've contributed to a significant charitable cause. This event underscores that innovation, even when met with skepticism, can achieve extraordinary success and concurrently serve a greater good, blending automotive excellence with philanthropic spirit.
