Activating the 'Launch Mode' involves an engaging user experience, where drivers interact with Rivian's 'Gear Guard Gary' on the infotainment display. This action initiates a virtual track animation and a dragstrip-style countdown on the gauge cluster, signaling the vehicle's readiness for maximum acceleration. The R2's electric Maximus traction motors emit a distinct whine as it propels forward, underscoring the raw power unleashed by the new mode.

Beyond its impressive 0-60 MPH time, the R2 continued to demonstrate robust performance, reaching 100 MPH in just 6.99 seconds. This performance metric nearly matches the Tesla Model 3 Performance and decisively beats the Model Y Performance by approximately one second. Furthermore, the R2 completed the quarter-mile dash in an astounding 11.31 seconds, once again surpassing the Model Y Performance.

Tesla’s continued reign is largely attributed to its flagship models. The Model Y, for instance, remains a formidable force, with 163,454 units sold, an impressive 8% rise from the prior year. The Hyundai IONIQ 5 distinguished itself as the top-selling EV outside of Tesla, with 20,730 units sold in the first six months of 2026.
