Drivers Reinvigorated by Hungary GP's 'Old School' F1 Racing Experience

Formula 1 drivers have enthusiastically embraced the Hungarian Grand Prix, describing it as a refreshing return to a more classic style of racing. The circuit's unique layout, characterized by numerous braking zones and shorter straights, minimized the need for complex energy management strategies, allowing drivers to focus on raw driving talent and tire performance. This sentiment stands in stark contrast to recent events on high-speed circuits, where the 2026 energy deployment regulations often necessitate extensive energy harvesting, leading to less natural and engaging races.
Haas driver Oliver Bearman highlighted this shift, noting that while in previous years he might have preferred tracks like Spa, he now favors venues such as Hungary and Austria. His teammate, Esteban Ocon, echoed these feelings, remarking on the enhanced ability to dictate gear selection and driving style. Ocon, who secured his maiden Grand Prix victory at the Hungaroring in 2021 with Alpine, expressed his enduring affection for the track, stating it brought him joy throughout the race weekend.
Gabriel Bortoleto of Audi also found the Hungarian Grand Prix to be one of the season's more enjoyable events. He observed that the track's energy-rich nature meant drivers weren't constrained by energy clipping, leading to more consistent car performance and increased overtaking opportunities. This view was further supported by Racing Bulls drivers Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson, who finished sixth and eighth respectively. Hadjar commented on the satisfaction of reaching top speeds without energy limitations, lamenting that track quality is now often judged by its energy demands. Lawson similarly praised the race as a significant improvement over the previous event at Spa, describing it as a more enjoyable experience.
The Hungarian Grand Prix, despite challenges such as resurfacing issues, a bumpy surface, and windy conditions, demonstrated positive advancements by the FIA in chassis development.
