IndyCar Ace Joins Truck Series for Kansas Showdown

Veteran open-wheel driver Conor Daly is gearing up for his return to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, where he will pilot the No. 25 RAM 1500 for Kaulig Racing at Kansas Speedway. This upcoming race will be Daly's eighth appearance in the Truck Series and his second for the current 2026 season.

Previous Performance and Future Ambitions

Earlier this summer, Daly had a previous outing with Kaulig Racing at IRP, where he qualified 29th and ultimately finished 26th. Looking ahead to Kansas, Daly shared his enthusiasm in a team statement, noting the distinct characteristics of the track. He highlighted that while Indianapolis demanded precision in close quarters, Kansas presents a different challenge, being a high-speed, aerodynamic-focused circuit where a precise setup and confidence in the vehicle are crucial for navigating its expansive turns.

A Glimpse into Daly's Diverse Racing Career

Beyond his Truck Series ventures, Daly boasts an extensive NASCAR background, including three starts each in the Cup and O'Reilly Series. Notably, he participated in the 2023 Daytona 500, securing a 29th-place finish. His primary reputation, however, stems from his distinguished open-wheel career, where he recently placed 12th in the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500, leading four laps. He has previously achieved a career-best sixth-place finish in the iconic race. With a total of 133 IndyCar starts, Daly has earned two podium finishes and one pole position. In 2027, he is slated to make a full-time return to IndyCar with Dreyer & Reinbold.

Expressing Gratitude and Anticipation for Kansas

Daly expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity to race with Kaulig Racing and Ram at Indianapolis, describing the experience as a blast. He lauded the team's welcoming atmosphere and the competitive nature of the truck, making his race in front of his hometown fans a memorable night. He is eager to sustain this positive momentum at Kansas Speedway.

A Gathering of Promising Drivers at the Brickyard

On September 21st, a select group of 11 up-and-coming racers, spearheaded by British motorsport sensation Abbi Pulling and rising American star George "G3" Argyros III, will converge at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This comprehensive test session, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, provides a crucial platform for five Indy NXT teams to assess their potential recruits on the challenging road course.

Abbi Pulling: A Trailblazer in Single-Seater Racing

Andretti Global will closely observe Abbi Pulling, a driver who has consistently demonstrated exceptional skill in single-seater categories. As an integral part of the Alpine Academy and the dominant victor of the 2024 F1 Academy series, Pulling has already made history as the first woman to win a British F4 race. Her success continued with a breakthrough victory in the GB3 Championship, where she secured both pole position and a win, echoing the achievements of Jamie Chadwick. Earlier this year, Pulling also showcased her capabilities in a high-profile Formula E rookie test with Nissan.

George "G3" Argyros III: Rising Through the Ranks

Andretti Global's lineup for the test also includes the talented American driver George "G3" Argyros III. Argyros has enjoyed a remarkable ascent through the USF Pro Championships, accumulating numerous wins and podium finishes across USF Juniors, USF2000, and USF Pro 2000, ultimately claiming third place in this season's championship. His notable background includes being the grandson of George Argyros, the former US ambassador to Spain and previous owner of the Seattle Mariners.

Fabio Quartararo's Perspective on Francesco Bagnaia's Recent Struggles

Fabio Quartararo, a former MotoGP world champion, recently offered his insights into Francesco Bagnaia's current difficulties in finding peak performance. Quartararo emphasized that he doesn't see a parallel between their circumstances, particularly because Bagnaia's teammate, Marc Marquez, has been securing wins, a scenario Quartararo stated would leave him feeling profoundly vexed and motivated to pinpoint the root cause of his own underperformance.

Both Quartararo and Bagnaia are celebrated world champions who are slated to transition to new teams in the upcoming season. Quartararo, the last rider to clinch a title with Yamaha in 2021, is set to join Honda's project, moving away from the sole manufacturer he has represented throughout his eight-year MotoGP career. Bagnaia, who achieved significant success with Ducati, including two titles and 31 victories, will move to Aprilia, partnering with his close associate, Marco Bezzecchi.

With eight Grand Prix events remaining, Bagnaia currently holds the ninth position in the overall standings, having recently achieved four consecutive podium finishes. In contrast, Quartararo is in 15th place, with less than half of Bagnaia's points and no podium appearances this season. His last top-three finish was in Jerez last year, which was also his sole podium for the season. Despite his struggles, 'El Diablo' leads the Yamaha riders with 61 points, significantly more than Jack Miller, who has 28.

Bagnaia, meanwhile, finds himself trailing the Marquez brothers and Fabio Di Giannantonio. The most striking comparison arises with the reigning champion, who surged to the top of the standings at Misano and has amassed 166 points over the last six rounds, surpassing Bagnaia's season total of 143 points.

Quartararo's consistent critiques of his M1 bike, encompassing both the earlier inline-four engine specification and the newer V4 version, have recently led to increased friction between Yamaha and the rider from Nice. This tension was particularly evident after Yamaha reportedly denied Quartararo's request to participate in an upcoming test at the Red Bull Ring, where the 2027 Pirelli tires were to be evaluated. Bagnaia, on the other hand, has been actively seeking an explanation for his ongoing discomfort with his Ducati.

When asked on Thursday at the Red Bull Ring about any resemblances between his and Bagnaia's predicaments, Quartararo firmly stated that their situations were distinct. He elaborated, "Because Marc is winning. If Alex [Rins], Jack, or Toprak [Razgatlioglu] were winning, I would be in a difficult position myself." He further added, "But it hinges on various factors. Ultimately, I'm unaware of the dynamic between Pecco and Ducati. However, from my perspective, if I were in that situation and my teammate was winning, I would be enraged and determined to understand why I couldn't achieve the same."

Quartararo expressed his anticipation of another challenging weekend, especially if the forecasted rain materializes. He cited the inherent weaknesses of his bike, particularly concerning grip, which is exacerbated in wet conditions. He remarked, "[Rain] is not favorable at all, as our existing lack of grip becomes even more pronounced in the rain, offering no advantage to us." He continued, "While it might be acceptable on a track like Indonesia, which offers ample grip, in these conditions, we are severely lacking, especially in braking and quick leaning. There are numerous aspects of this track where we fall short.”
